Independence vs. Spring Hill - Games Recap
March 11, 2020
The top 2020 prospect in the state, OF/LHP Robert Hassell III (Vanderbilt Commit) and Independence opened up the season at 11-AAA rival Spring Hill. As expected, a large crowd on hand as spectators, scouts, and cross checkers get the first look at Robert Hassell in 2020, and he did not disappoint.
Hassell had a multi-hit game, highlighted by a line drive single up the middle. Balanced, athletic stance w/ smooth, load and toe tap stride. Lightning fast bat speed w/ good angles at early connection and impact. He remained very patient at the plate as Spring Hill tried to work around him. On the bump, Hassell sat 87-92 for 4.1 IP mixing mostly diving breaking ball at 73-76.

As good as Hassell was helping Indy jump out to an early 5-2 lead, Spring Hill does what seasoned clubs do forcing Hassell from the game in the 5th. After 2021 RHP/1B Dawson Hargrove drew a walk to plate a run, 2020 OF Elijah Williams muscled a two-rbi single to CF to knot the game at 5. Spring Hill turned the game over to 2021 RHP/3B Jackson Marbet (MTSU Commit) and he looked the part to start the 2020 campaign, sitting 85-88 w/ some life and occasional cut. Marbet worked the final two frames, punching out three, while continuing to show feel for three pitches, but flashing a more developed breaking ball at 68-72 w/ some bite.
‘21 3B/RHP @JacksonMarbet (@SHillbaseball | @MT_Baseball) was sharp in 6-5 comeback win over @indyeaglesbb. Tossing 2 scoreless w/ 3 punchouts + a win.

In the bottom of the 7th with two-outs, 2021 1B Nathaniel Huntzinger hooked one into RF for a single and was lifted for a pinch runner. The seasoned Spring Hill club plays spoiler as 2021 SS Brandon O’Brien caps off the 6-5 comeback win with a walk off single to RCF in the bottom of the 7th.
