Game Report: ECS @ Bartlett

On Tuesday, ECS traveled to Bartlett to play a varsity and jv doubleheader. This was a brisk day, especially after the sun set, where there was a heavy wind and felt like it was in the 20’s. With us seeing ECS the next day against Collierville, we will wait to discuss them in the next game report.
Before we went to Bartlett, we checked out an inning plus of Harding and Memphis University School. MUS was previously written about here. On Harding, a couple players jumped out in a short look:
- 2020 OF Dawson Simmons hit in the 3-hole, projectable lean, athletic frame w/ feel for barrel and some bat speed.
- 2019 SS Collin Hoover hit cleanup. Stood out in between innings at shortstop, featuring arm strength w/ carry through target. May serve as the team’s closer as well.

Bartlett Hitters
BJ Banyon OF / Bartlett, TN / 2020OF showed plus run speed while picking up a double in game action. 6’0, 175-pounder, athletic frame w/ lean strength, projectable. Offensively, hits w/ a slightly open, slightly crouched stance w/ short hand rhythm into shift of weight w/ mini leg kick. Proper bat path w/ feel for contact, 0 swing and miss on 3 swings. Flashes bat speed through the zone. Up the middle approach. Plus runner underway, takes some time to accelerate, get to top speed. Defensively, was not tested in the OF, showed developing arm strength in I/O. |
Jalen Fithian SS / 3B / Bartlett, TN / 2020IF jumped out in I/O and parlayed that into a strong all-around performance in the game, making an impact on the bases and collecting 2 hits. Short, athletic profile w/ lean strength, lot of physical projection. Offensively, hits w/ a slightly open, slightly crouched stance w/ bat tapping on his back shoulder into mini leg kick and proper load. Feel for barrel w/ bat-speed through the zone. Wants to hit gaps and use above average speed to leg out extra bases. Defensively, showed soft hands w/ middle IF actions, arm strength w/ carry to target. |
Cole Smith SS / Bartlett, TN / 2019Rankings StateRank: 26 / POS: 6
Ole Miss commit showed premium hands w/ projectable frame. 6’3, 165-pounder w/ some present strength, ultra-projectable. Had an uneventful day offensively, picking up a walk, sac fly and getting hit by a pitch. Offensively, hits in a straight on, slightly crouched stance w/ hand rhythm into shift of weight, stride and load. Generates bat speed through the zone. Just needs to add strength to begin seeing offensive results, projectable pull power. Stood out in I/O w/ premium, soft hands, good feet. Features arm strength w/ carry to target, projectable above average arm strength. |
Bartlett Pitchers
Chris Braswell RHP / OF / Bartlett, TN / 2019FB (84-86, T88), CB (74-76), SF (77-78) Righty has made a jump, featuring true swing and miss stuff, recording 5 strikeouts in 2 innings. 5’11, 170-pounder w/ high waist, athletic build w/ some present lower half strength, some physical projection. Pitches from a full wind-up w/ ¾ release. Quiet, repeatable delivery w/ quick arm. Straight FB shows occasional cut. CB is a tight slurve that flashes above average depth. Out pitch. Shows feel for throwing it for strikes, burying for put away. Buried both splitters he threw on this day, showed dive. Around the zone, feel for 2 pitch mix, developing ability to pitch w/ intent. Generated 10 swing and misses on 12 swings. |
Cody Brewington LHP / 1B / Bartlett, TN / 2018FB (80-82, T83), CB (72-73), CH (76) Uncommitted LHP struck out 4 in 2 innings. 6’0, 215-pounder features medium, physical frame w/ physical lower half, close to mature frame. Pitches from the stretch only w/ over the top release. Downhill plane. FB shows occasional arm side run. Medium downer CB shows proper shape. Buried the only CH he threw. More control than command, sprayed the zone w/ FB’s on this day. Generated 6 swing and misses on 15 swings. |
Bradley Mitchell RHP / Bartlett, TN / 2021FB (79-81, T82, 83), CB (65-70) Young righty shows quick arm, striking out the side to finish off the JV game. Short, athletic frame w/ some present lower half strength. Projectable. Pitches from a full wind-up w/ over the top release. Quiet, repeatable delivery w/ some downhill plane. FB shows occasional short arm-side run. Feel for spinning the CB, proper rotation and shape w/ above average depth, occasional late bite. Around the zone w/ both pitches. Feel for subtracting from the FB to locate in the strike zone when behind in the count. Generated 4 swing and misses on 4 swings. |
Grant Nobles RHP / Bartlett, TN / 2019Rankings StateRank: 97 / POS: 25
FB (74-76, T78), SL (69-70) Submarine righty was the last arm to throw in what became wintry conditions, striking out 2 in his inning of work. 6’3, 190-pounder w/ lot of projection, some present strength. Pitches from the stretch only from a sidearm to submarine slot. FB flashes above average run and sink to his arm-side corner, developing movement to his glove-side corner. Short SL flashes proper shape, developing consistency. Strike-thrower pounds the zone, flashes ability to pitch w/ intent. Generated 2 swing and misses on 11 swings. |
