Future Games Trials: Corner Infield Analysis

The Future Games Trials took place on June 30th at LakePoint Sports in Emerson, GA. The event featured 65 underclassmen. Prospects participated in a pro-style workout and simulated game play.

We continue our positional breakdown with a look at the corner infielders in attendance. 3B/1B Jay Murdock (Terrell Academy, 2022) stood out amongst the rest of the corner infielder and every prospect in attendance at the event. The physical left-handed hitter displayed power to all fields with quick, strong hands and a whippy barrel. His performance earned him an invite to the 2020 PBR Future Games, and followed that up by announcing his commitment to Mississippi State.

Top Corner Infield Prospects

Jay Murdock, 3B/1B, Terrell Academy, 2022
Mississippi State commit. 6-foot-1, 225-pound left-handed hitting corner infield, physical frame with advanced strength throughout, carries himself well, one of the top power hitters in Georgia’s Class of 2022. Offensively, open setup, hands load back smoothly as the barrel becomes vertical, shallow leg kick timing trigger, explosive lower half, good balance. Takes a power approach at the plate, drives the ball to all fields, quick, strong hands, whippy barrel, works uphill through the zone as he looks to elevate and do damage with every swing, 90 exit velocity off a tee, 94.53 max exit velocity during BP. Defensively, arm works long and loose to a ¾ slot, 81 across the infield. Moves well on the infield for his size, soft hands, fluid footwork, ocean on transfers.

Brody Hollingsworth, 1B/3B, Hillgrove, 2022
6-foot-2, 195-pound right-handed hitting corner infielder, strong, wide build, room for more strength, ran a 7.43 laser-timed 60. Offensively, balanced setup, smooth rhythm in hands, loads hands back, long stride to a wide position, good balance through finish. Pull-side hitter with some serious power in his swing, barrel works mostly level through the zone, able to back spin fly balls with force, consistently generated hard contact, strong hands create quick barrel speed, 96 exit velocity off a tee. Defensively, arm works long to a high ¾ slot, 77 across the infield. Fields position athletically, fluid footwork, competent glove, soft hands, clean transfers.

Lukas Farris, 1B, North Cobb Christian, 2022
6-foot-3, 185-pound right-handed hitting first baseman, strong, athletic frame, muscular build, ran a 7.33 laser-timed 60. Offensively, balanced setup, high hands drop and deepen on load, short leg lift timing trigger, good balance through finish. Gap-to-gap type hitter, barrel works uphill through the zone, at-times gets level, strong hands, whippy barrel speed (77.30 max bat speed via Blast), can drive the ball with force, posted a 92 exit velocity off a tee and max exit velocity of 96.99 during BP.

John Anagnostis, 3B/RHP, Campbell, 2022
6-foot-1, 200-pound right-handed hitting third baseman and right-handed pitcher, strong build, ran a 7.31 laser-timed 60. Offensively, open setup, hands load back into an arm bar, reverse toe-tap stride, short finish on back-side. Swing works long to the zone, short through, looks to elevate the ball with an uphill path through the zone, gap-to-gap type hitter, some lift in swing, creates hard contact, 91 exit velocity off a tee, 95.50 max exit velocity during BP. Defensively, short arm action to a high ¾ slot, 75 across the infield. Also was 79 from the outfield, had a longer arm action, full swing on back-side. Fields position competently, clean on transfer and with footwork. On the mound, arm works long with a full arm swing to a high ¾ slot. Tall and fall delivery, works on-line, lands open, finishes crossing over. Fastball sat 73-76, touched 77. Curveball, 58-59, gradual, 12/6. Slider, 69-72, cut.

Nicholas Bolden, 1B/LHP, Paulding County, 2022
6-foot, 205-pound left-handed two-way prospect, physical frame, room for firming up, ran an 8.59 laser-timed 60. Offensively, open setup, hands load back and up, short stride to a balanced position, hips open up early. Easy effort level swing, line drive type hitter, uses the entire field, repeats swing well, 89 exit velocity off a tee, 91.70 max exit velocity during BP. On the mound, short arm action, over-the-top slot. Tall and fall delivery, works on-line, short stride, lands square, finishes crossing over. Fastball sat 64-69, touched 70.

Bailey Carroll, 1B/LHP, Lenoir City (TN), 2023
5-foot-6, 173-pound left-handed two-way prospect, proportional build, carries some strength, more to come as he continues to mature, ran an 8.03 laser-timed 60. Offensively, narrow, open setup, hands load back smoothly, long toe-tap stride, carries momentum through contact towards the mound. Swing works short and level through the zone, drops his hands, mostly line drive type hitter, elevated some balls, 72 exit velocity off a tee, 82.67 max exit velocity during BP. On the mound, short arm action to a ¾ slot. Drop and drive delivery, works on-line, lands square, finishes crossing over. Fastball sat 62-66, touched 68. Curveball, 54-56, gradual break.

Wyatt Getz, 3B, Buford, 2023
6-foot-4, 155-pound right-handed hitting third baseman, long, lanky, lots of room to fill out, ran a 7.39 laser-tmed 60. Offensively, wide, open setup, hands load back with a barrel wrap, leg kick timing trigger, good balance. Line drive type hitter, low effort swing, barrel works level through the zone, uses the entire field, 82 exit velocity off a tee, 88.79 max exit velocity during BP. Defensively, arm plays short to a ¾ slot, 73 across the diamond. Fields position well with fluid footwork and clean transfers, competent glove work while fielding, at-times packs the ball on transfers, good body control on the move.

Haden Gupton, 3B/RHP, Alpharetta, 2022
5-foot-8, 170-pound right-handed hitting two-way prospect, proportional, thick build, ran a 7.51 laser-timed 60. Offensively, balanced setup, high hands laid back smoothly, leg kick timing trigger, finishes on back-side. Mostly line drive type hitter, uses middle/pull, at-times can get uphill with swing path and elevate the ball, 82 exit velocity off a tee, 89.32 max exit velocity during BP. Defensively, short, loose arm to a low ¾ slot, 76 across the infield. Plays through the ball with clean footwork, solid glove hand, feel for the back hand, clean on transfer, good body control when on the move. Eli McElwaney, 3B/RHP, Buford, 2023
6-foot, 200-pound right-handed hitting two-way prospect, physical build with developing strength throughout frame, ran a 7.31 laser-timed 60. Offensively, open setup, hands start low and load back smoothly, short stride, good balance as he carries momentum through contact. Line drive type hitter, has the ability to use the field effectively, barrel works level through the zone, lets the ball travel, 83 exit velocity off a tee, 91.95 max exit velocity during BP. Defensively, long arm action, controlled draw on the back-side, some whip to a ¾ slot, 79 across the infield. Plays through the ball with soft hands and a fluid footwork, clean on transfers. On the mound, arm works and clean on the back-side, hides ball well, comes out of a high ¾ slot. Tall and fall delivery, works on-lne, lands square, finishes crossing over. Fastball sat 74-77. 6-foot, 205-pound right-handed hitting two-way prospect, physical build, ran an 8.09 laser-timed 60. Offensively, balanced setup with a bend in his knees, short load back, shallow leg kick timing trigger, lands long in a wide position at contact. Line drive type hitter, barrel works level through the zone, uses mostly the pull-side, at-times lined balls back up the middle, 78 exit velocity off a tee, 90.20 max exit velocity during BP. Defensively, short arm action to a ¾ slot, 67 across the infield. Breaks down in front of the ball, feel for glove and back hand. On the mound, arm plays short to a high ¾ slot. Drop and drive delivery, works on-line, lands square. Finishes upright and square to home. Fastball sat 68-69, touched 70. Curveball, 59-60. 

Samuel Parker, 1B, Kennesaw Mountain, 2023
6-foot-1, 185-pound left-handed hitting first baseman, muscular build, ran an 8.21 laser-timed 60. Offensively, balanced setup, hands start loaded back, load deeper into an arm bar, short stride, good balance through finish. Takes a power/pull approach, flashed quick barrel speed (77.00 max bat speed via Blast), barrel works uphill through the zone, strong hands, able to back spin fly balls, at-times showed that he can a real long ball threat, 89 exit velocity off a tee,posted a 94.89 max exit velocity during BP.    

Aidan Shinault, 3B/RHP, Archer, 2022
5-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitting two-way prospect, lean, athletic frame, ran a 7.23 laser-timed 60. Offensively, balanced setup, hands load back as barrel becomes vertical, reverse toe-tap stride, finishes on back-side. Barrel works level through the zone creating line drive contact, mainly uses the middle of the field, 80 exit velocity off a tee. Defensively, long arm action with some stab on the back-side, quick arm speed to a low ¾ slot, 81 across the infield. Plays through the ball, good range, fluid footwork and clean on transfers. On the mound, long arm action to a ¾ slot. Drop and drive delivery, works across the mound, lands square, finishes upright. Fastball sat 75-76. Curveball, 66-67. Changeup, 69-70. 

Charlie Siegel, 3B, North Paulding, 2022
6-foot-2, 200-pound right-handed hitting third baseman, strong, physical frame with even more strength developing, ran an 8.09 laser-timed 60. Offensively, tall, narrow setup, hands load back as he brings the barrel vertical, long stride to a balanced position, finishes on back-side. Gap-to-gap type hitter, uses the whole field, barrel works mostly level through the zone, when on time and gets his hands extended generates hard contact, especially to the pull-side, posted a 93.41 max exit velocity during BP. Defensively, short arm action to a low 3/4 slot, gets to release quickly, 82 across the diamond. Fields position playing through the ball, fluid footwork, confident hands, feel for back hand, solid range to both sides, clean on transfers.
