As we conclude the Fall season and players get ready to head into their off-season training, we want to shine a light on the 2023 class in Washington and reveal our Top 100 prospects for the class.

Since its inception in 2005, the Prep Baseball Report has evolved into one of the country’s biggest and most respected independent scouting services, with a singular focus of providing comprehensive year-round coverage in every state we are in. The mission of the Prep Baseball Report is to scout and promote amateur baseball - high school, junior college and college - and, ultimately, help athletes achieve their dreams of playing baseball at the next level. 

With more than 150 scouts, we have the largest baseball scouting infrastructure across all levels of amateur baseball in the country. Our multimedia platforms and events work in tandem, ultimately creating the most powerful source of high school baseball promotion in each state.  While other organizations take a national approach, our goal is to become the authoritative voice on the ground level of each state.

Rankings are based off evaluations by scouting director Dan Jurik as well as additional PBR scouts across the country who have seen prospects from the state at various events.

Stanford commit SS Sebastian David (Lakeside) leads the way for the state right now. The physically built athlete has a balanced all-around game with tools that consistently show up during competition. The overall offensive game is advanced for his age and he seems destined to add more power to his skill-set as he continues to develop. Defensively he’s a dependable infielder and has a knack for making the correct baseball play. 

C Carson Ohland (Tahoma) and LHP/1B Brody Mills (West Valley) are both committed to Washington and have ideal prospect profiles. Switch-hitting catchers are tough to find. Not only does Ohland fit that mold, but he’s an above average athlete with impressive catch and throw skills behind the dish. Hits with a very mature approach and advanced feel for the barrel. Mills is a physical presence and his L/L ability is a huge advantage to have. Coming in at about 6’2, 210 pounds with body control and coordination, Mills can straight overpower you both on the bump and at the plate. His ball jumps out of hand from a short, tight arm path and he features some classic, left-handed loft in his swing at the plate. 

Johnson, JOhnson & JOhnson

The next 3 players might all share the same last name but their games are completely different.

Washington commit RHP/C Bryce Johnson (Eastlake) had a huge summer and delivered a big-time performance down at LakePoint for the 2020 PBR Future Games. He commands a heavy 84-88 mph FB and shows feel for consistently being around the zone with all of his offerings. He also can do some damage at the plate with a strong, compact swing from the right side. Fellow Washington commit LHP Bjorn Johnson (Lincoln) has also been up to 88 mph with his FB and flashed an above average CB/CH to pair with it. The lean, projectable southpaw has a clean, continuous arm path with a repeatable delivery.

Lastly, RHP Olin Johnson (Squalicum) has some of the best overall upside on the bump in the class. The Washington State commit has loose, easy arm action and a terrific pitcher’s frame to grow into at 6-foot-3. Johnson could see a huge jump in his pure stuff as he matures and grows into his body. 

Pitching Depth

Coming in at #7 overall is Oregon State commit RHP Ethan Unruh (Woodinville). Another tall, projectable arm who could just be scratching the surface of what they’re capable of. Unruh stands about 6-foot-4 with long, lanky levers in both his upper and lower half. He throws from a lower slot and is a very uncomfortable at-bat with his heavy mid-to-upper 80’s FB that shows impressive sink down in the zone. Gonzaga commit RHP Michael Getzinger (Moses Lake) is the last pitcher who falls in the Top 10. Getzinger made some big jumps on the mound in a short period of time. Not only does the FB get into the upper 80’s, but he continues to show feel for his above average CB. His strong, athletic frame helps him repeat his delivery and be aggressive with his finish out front at release. 

Impact Bats

One of the earliest players to come off the board in the 2023 class, C/OF Kooper Jones (Richland) is a strong, confident athlete who brings a blue-collar approach to the game. Moves well behind the dish with dependable receiving skills and clean catch-and-throw actions. Offensively he shows a quick, easy barrel with gap-to-gap type power.

Rounding out the top 10 is Oregon State commit SS Reeve Boyd (Seattle Prep). Boyd shows impressive strength at the plate and creates quick, effortless bat speed with a smooth, fluid swing. He moves well on defensive in the INF and gets the ball across the diamond with plenty of arm strength.
