Super Sophomore Games: SC Pitcher Quick Hits

This weekend, top uncommitted 2027s from the East Coast have descended on Greensboro and Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for the Inaugural East Coast Super Sophomore Games. The event is being hosted at two locations, High Point University and Wake Forest University. Team South Carolina players took part in a full workout on Friday and will play three games over the weekend, two on Saturday and one on Sunday. Here is video and quick hitting notes from the pitchers from the weekend:

Connor Salerno LHP / OF / Legion Collegiate Academy, SC / 2027

Rankings  StateRank: 1 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 9 / POS: 2

6-3 227 pound strong physical frame.  Threw from a L3/4 arm slot with a quick athletic arm.  Was in complete control of his 3 innnings with quick tempo and mixing 3 plus pitches from strikes.  FB sat 87-89 mph and topped 90 mph.  Good SL that he moved around the zone at 77-80 mph and and a CH at 77-78 mph.

  

 

Cooper Jones LHP / OF / James Island Charter, SC / 2027

5-8 158 pound frame.  Worked extremely quick with great tempo and pace.  Really keeping hitters off gaurd while attacking with lots of strikes and tempo.  Moved all pitches around the zone to both RHH and LHH.  FB was up to 85 mph and sitting 82-84 mph.  SL was 73-75 mph and CH sat 72-73 mph.

  

 

Mac Berry LHP / OF / Chapin, SC / 2027

5-10 170 pound sleander frame with room to add on.  Left hander with a quick athletic arm with an over the top arm action.  Fastball sat 83-85 T86 while showing good feel for a change at 74-76 mph and mixing in a CB at 68 mph.

  

 

Connor Wells LHP / 1B / Dorman, SC / 2027

Rankings  StateRank: 2 / POS: 2 OverallRank: 12 / POS: 3

6-5 195 pound very projectable frame.  Left hander with a short quick arm action with good deception while throwing across his body.  FB was up to 85 mph and aitting 81-84 mph.  CB had good spin while sitting 72-73 mph and up to 74 mph and also mixing in a CH at 75 mph. 

  

 

Eli Chowning LHP / 1B / Carolina Forest, SC / 2027

5-11 182 strong frame with present strength.  Controlled tempo delivery while throwing from a H3/4 slot while attcking hitters with a 3 pitch mix.  FB topped out at 85 mph on the day while sitting 81-84 mph while showing good command of the pitch.  Changeup was a plus pitch with while sitting at 74-76 mph while showing great action to it.  Also ,mixed in a breaking ball at 69-74 mph.

  

 

Brennan New RHP / OF / Mauldin, SC / 2027

6-1 175 pound very projectable and athletic frame.  Quick tempo long loose athletic arm from a H3/4 slot ran his FB up to 90 mph and sitting 87-89 mph.  Mixed in a 12/6 CB at 67-70 mph and also a CH at 67-72 mph.

  

 

Connor Pellerin RHP / OF / Carolina Forest, SC / 2027

5-10 174 pound athletic frame with present strength and room to add on.  Righty with a long loose athletic arm that mixed 3 pitches from strikes.Attacked hitters with his FB that was up to 86 mph and sitting at 83-85 mph.  Mixed in a CB at 69-71 mph and a CH 76-78 mph.

  

 

Frank Pepe Jr. LHP / 1B / St. James, SC / 2027

5-9 196 pound strong frame.  Left hander that attacked hitters with 3 pitches for strikes with good pitch ability.  FB was up to 78 mph and sitting 75-77 while mixing in a CB at 64-65 and a CH at 73-74 mph.

  

 

Brayden Brogdon OF / LHP / Rock Hill High, SC / 2027

Rankings  StateRank: 23 / POS: 5

5-11 144 pound wiry athletic frame.  Lefty with a short quick athletic arm  from a L3/4 slot and worked with a quick tempo.  Attacked hitters with FB that sat 77-81 while working both sides of the plate.  Mixed in good CB that had good spin to while while sitting at 71-72 mph and also showing good feel for a CH at 70 mph.
