Team Carolina Future Games - SC Pitcher Analysis
August 22, 2019
The PBR Future Games is the biggest underclass recruiting event in the country. The 2019 version moved to LakePoint in Emerson, GA, and continued to grow in terms of the talent on the field and the coaches and schools in attendance. Over 500 of the top uncommitted underclass players from across the country, and Canada, performed in front of over 320 college coaches and scouts.
For the second year, Team Carolina combined the top prospects from North Carolina and South Carolina. Position players participated in a full pro-style workout on day 1, with most of the workouts coming on one field for the coaches and scouts. The following three days saw Team Carolina take on Team Georgia, Team Florida, and Team Alabama.
As we continue our coverage of the 2019 PBR Future Games, we begin to jump into the individual player evaluations. Next up are the arms from South Carolina; two pitchers K'd 4 each in their two inning outings and one pitcher showed off a power breaking ball up to 78 mph.

Carter Daniels RHP / 3B / P27 Academy, SC / 2021Rankings StateRank: 25 / POS: 7
6-1, 180lb athletic frame. Strong through the shoulders and lean torso with a ton of projection remaining. Short rocker step into a higher leg kick that ends around the chest. Compact at the top with slight rotation and downward tilt with the back shoulder. Full arm action on the backside to a H3Q release point. Quick arm works cleanly. Gets downhill with good extension. Fell off to 1B side occasionally. Mixed FB, CB, CH. FB worked up to 89 with riding life through the zone. Showed feel for CH with matching hand speed at 79-80 mph. Power breaking ball, with 11/5 shape, was inconsistent landing for strikes but drew multiple swing and misses on pitches out of the zone. CB ranged from 72-75 mph. Got himself out of a jam in his first inning with two big strike outs after battling with some control issues early on. Uber projectable frame and athleticism give him a high ceiling.

Austin Gordon SS / RHP / Myrtle Beach, SC / 2021Rankings StateRank: 27 / POS: 3
6-3, 175lb frame with long limbs and wiry athleticism. Stretch exclusive, got to a balance point at the belt with no one on base. Showed a quicker knee to knee leg lift with runners on. Rotates slightly at the top of the balance point before working down the mound to get his extension. Stabs the hand on the backside, loading the scaps, and slightly abbreviating the arm arc. Lands slightly closed of his line and gets to a OTT arm slot creating some deception. Repeated the delivery well for a player with his length. Controlled the FB from 85-87 in the lower half of the zone to the corners and showed ability to elevate with intent. CB has potential to develop into a plus pitch. Slot remains the same but he gets around the pitch at times. At its best it has some serious late bite and 11/5 shape at 69-73. Big time winner at the 2019 FG pounding the zone and striking out 4 batters in his two innings of work.

Reed Garris RHP / C / Wando, SC / 2021Rankings StateRank: 31 / POS: 10
High waisted durable frame with good mix of strength and athleticism. Quality two way player can catch/hit when not on the mound. Medium rocker step from the wind up gets the balance point just above the belt. Slightly rotational at the top with a full arm action and H3Q to OTT arm slot. Repeated the delivery well with a controlled tempo. Lands slightly open of his line and gets down the mound with a powerful lower half. FB showed occasional wiggle to the arm side. 3 pitch mix controlling the FB in the lower half of the zone at 85-87 and showing feel for a SL with plus potential that ranged from 73-78 and a CH that has matching hand speed and fade at 76. Worked the lower half of the zone during the 2019 FG working ahead consistently and getting ground ball contact.
