Team Carolina Future Game Trials: Infielder Analysis

The PBR Future Games is the premier underclass event in the country. In 2019, the event moved to LakePoint in Emerson, GA where PBR territories worked to put together rosters of the top uncommitted underclass players in the country. Day 1 saw the position players work out on 1 field for over 320 college coaches. Days 2 - 4 featured game play with no more than 2 fields a the LakePoint complex going live at any one time.
Team Carolina is made up of the top uncommitted underclass players from North Carolina and South Carolina. In 2019, Team Carolina put up huge numbers on the first day workouts and followed that performance by going 2-1 and winning our pod featuring Team Florida, Team Georgia, and Team Alabama. To date, ten players off the 2019 Team Carolina roster have committed with five of those to Power 5 Conference schools. On Sunday November 3rd, the next crop of prospects for the PBR Future Games gathered at the beautiful new facility in High Point, NC, BB&T Point. Players ran through a full pro-style workout. Position players ran a laser timed 60, went through an offensive workout, and then a defensive workout. Pitchers threw a controlled bullpen where PBR scouts were able to gather advanced analytics with the F5 PitchLogic Baseball.
Below we continue to break down the individual performances at the Team Carolina Future Game Trials. The next groups up are the primary middle infielders and corner infielders. This group features a number of athletic players that are just beginning to scratch their ultimate potential. Lean, athletic bodies filled the roster and several of these guys have begun to show they can play at a high level.

MIDDLE INFIELDERS
Jared Deshazor SS / OF / Apex Friendship, NC / 20225 foot 5, 135-pound build. Hits from the right side with an upright setup and open base. Average stride during his load with the hands working back and the barrel going to a more vertical position. Mostly level barrel path with average barrel awareness. Hit line drives to left field during batting practice. Exit velocity recorded at 75 mph. Average hands on the infield that funnel to the midsection after catch. Clean transfers with a long arm action. Accurate arm to first base that topped at 81 mph. Recorded a 7.50 in the 60. |
Nash Chelcun SS / RHP / Pine Lake, NC / 2022Rankings StateRank: 75 / POS: 10
Athletic build at 5 foot 6, 145-pounds. Uses an open setup with a narrow base from the right side. Uses a toe tap during the load, diving into the plate with his hands working back. Pull approach with a mostly flat barrel path. Inconsistent load affects timing and barrel awareness. Gets his barrel to it when loading in sync. Exit velocity recorded at 82 mph. Athletic on the infield with fluid actions. Above average hand funnel to the belt after catch. Quick transfers with an accurate arm across the diamond that topped at 77 mph. Recorded a 7.25 in the 60. |
Tristan Salinas SS / OF / Watauga, NC / 2023Lanky frame at 5 foot 9, 150-pounds. Left hand hitter with a tall, open setup with a narrow base. Long stride, creating some momentum into the ball. Loose hands and looks to attack the ball with a pull approach. Mostly flat barrel path with feel for his barrel. Exit velocity recorded at 82 mph. Plays through balls in the outfield with average hands. Clean exchanges with a long arm action, throwing from a high ¾ slot. Some accuracy to his throws that topped at 74 mph. Feet work around the ball on the infield. Average hands that funnel to the belt after catch. Feel for different arm slots with an accurate arm that topped at 73 mph. Recorded a 7.37 in the 60. |
Zachary Wernoski 2B / OF / East Chapel Hill , NC / 2023Athletic build at 5 foot 8, 140-pounds. Hits from the right side with his weight stacked on his back leg. Weight works back during the load with the barrel getting to an upright position and average stride. Balanced swing working through the middle of the field. Hands work through the swing with a direct bat path with feel for his barrel. Exit velocity recorded at 78 mph. Fluid feet on the infield with average hands. Takes the ball to the center of his body after catch with clean transfers. Some accuracy to his throws that topped at 74 mph. Recorded a 7.27 in the 60. |
Ty Torti 2B / SS / Cardinal Gibbons , NC / 2022Athletic frame with room to add strength at 5 foot 10, 162-pounds. Switch hitter. Sets up balanced and relaxed from both sides. More fluid from the left side with more barrel awareness and bat speed. Simple swing from the right side with a short barrel path to the ball. Exit velocity recorded at 86 mph and should improve with added strength. Solid actions on the infield with the hands and feet working in rhythm. Reads hops and has a smooth transfer to his release. Accurate arm across the diamond that topped at 80 mph. Recorded a 7.26 in the 60. Catches the eye throughout the workout. Game should continue to polish with strength, around a solid skill set that is present. |
Ryan Puschak 2B / SS / Apex Friendship, NC / 2022Lanky build at 6 foot, 150-pounds. Hits from the right side with a balanced setup. Simple load with a short stride and the hands working slightly back. Hands stay inside the ball with a middle of the field approach. Average feel for his barrel with his exit velocity recorded at 81 mph. Relaxed hands on the infield that funnel to the midsection after catch. Clean transfers with a long arm action, throwing from a ¾ slot. Accurate arm that topped at 71 mph to first base. Recorded an 8.10 in the 60. |
Korbin Pettigrew SS / OF / John T Hoggard, NC / 20226 foot 3, 160-pound lanky frame with plenty of room to add strength. Hits from the right side with a balanced setup. Weight works back during the load with a short stride. Loose hands with a flat barrel path, getting extension through the zone. Gap to gap approach with better than average bat speed. Exit velocity recorded at 87 mph. Active feet on the infield with average hands. Catches the ball in the center of his body, funneling to the belt after catch. Accurate arm to first base that topped at 74 mph. Recorded a 7.16 in the 60. Continues to improve as he gets used to his length. Should add strength and quickness as he matures, allowing an already athletic presence to grow. |

Average frame at 5 foot 10, 145-pounds. Hits from the right side with an athletic setup. Smooth load with his weight and hands working back with a short stride. Some quickness to his hands and creates some momentum into the ball. Keeps his barrel in the zone and uses the whole field. Average bat speed with his exit velocity recorded at 80 mph. Athletic on the infield with fluid feet and average hands. Funnels to the belt after catch with clean transfers, using different arm slots. Blake Stotesbury SS / RHP / AC Reynolds, NC / 20225 foot 11, 150-pound average build with room to add strength. Hits from the right side with a balanced setup, sitting into his legs. Loads knee to knee in his lower half with his hands working slightly back. Quick hands with some lift in the swing. Works gap to gap with average barrel feel. Above average bat speed with his exit velocity recorded at 83 mph. Athletic movements on the infield. Average hands that funnel to the midsection after catch with clean transfers. Samuel Schall SS / OF / Apex, NC / 2022Thin frame at 5 foot 7, 130-pounds. Balanced setup from the right side. Small leg kick, loading against his back leg with quiet hands. Athletic build at 5 foot 10, 150-pounds. Relaxed, athletic setup from the right side with some barrel waggle. Hands get ready to attack the ball with an average stride, creating momentum into the ball. Quick, loose hands and gets extension through the zone. Works middle to his pull side with feel for his barrel and better than average bat speed. Exit velocity recorded at 85 mph. Athletic on the infield with fluid feet and better than average hands. Funnels to the midsection after catch with clean transfers using different arm slots. Accurate arm across the diamond that topped at 72 mph. Recorded a 7.05 in the 60. Checks a lot of boxes in a workout. His quickness and athleticism suggests he will continue to develop around a solid skill set that is present. |

Strong build at 6 foot 3, 205-pounds. Balanced, athletic setup from the right side. Smooth load with a short stride. Loose hands and keeps his barrel in the zone. Left the yard to left field during batting practice. Drives the ball to his pull side with above average bat speed. Exit velocity recorded at 88 mph. Feet work around the ball on the infield. Relaxed hands catching the ball in the center of his body. Smooth transfers with an easy release. Accurate arm with some carry to first base that topped at 80 mph. Recorded a 7.54 in the 60. |
Isaiah Mack 3B / SS / William A. Hough , NC / 2022Athletic build at 6 foot 2, 175-pounds. Hits from the right side with an open setup. Smooth load with a short stride and his lower half getting back to even. Short barrel path to the ball with some strength in his swing. Made lots of hard contact driving the ball gap to gap. Above average bat speed and barrel awareness. Exit velocity recorded at 91 mph. Feet work around the ball on the infield with some softness to his hands. Arm has some carry across the diamond and has feel for different arm slots. Positional velocity topped at 84 mph. Recorded a 7.61 in the 60. Raw in some aspects but there is an effort to be quick and there is strength. Very high ceiling potential as he continues to mature into a long frame. |
