Southern Athletics Scout Day: TrackMan Offensive Stats

Sammy Esposito
PBR SC Director of Scouting

The Southern Athletics Scout Day took place on November 6th on the campus of Limestone University  in Gaffney, SC.

The event began with a defensive evaluation for catchers, pitcher bullpens with each pitch tracked by Trackman.  A pro-style workout for all the position players followed that included the 60 yard dash, BP with TrackMan ball flight analysis, and a defensive evaluation.

Below we will look at TrackMan Offensive Stats for the event.

TRACKMAN OFFENSIVE STATS

TRACKMAN LEADERS-BATTING PRACTICE

TrackMan was on hand to track ball flight off the bat throughout BP during the workout of the Southern Athletics Scout Day.  TrackMan is able to track exit velocity, distance travelled, time in the air, launch angle, and more.  Below we break down some of the leaders from TrackMan's during the workout.

Peak Exit Velocity

TrackMan is able to track every ball hit into fair territory, throughout the BP sessions.  Below are the exit velocities produced by individual players.

Average Exit Velocity

The average exit velocity measures a players ability to consistently produce hard contact.  The average was taken based on every ball tracked by TrackMan throughout the player's BP session.

Launch Angle Percentage

Based on the ball flight, TrackMan is able to identify each hit as a ground ball, line drive, or fly ball.  While there are many factors as to why a hitter may approach each pitch in a certain way, the overall groupings of BP can give some insight to each hitter's approach.
