SBA Org Workout: Hitters Notebook
June 26, 2023
June 6 - 8, PBR was at Charlotte Christian School to watch as Showcase Baseball Academy (SBA) ran their players through a workout and then played intra-squad scrimmages for two days. Day 1 saw the position players run a 60, workout defensively, and take a couple of rounds of BP.
With PBR Scouts in attendance, we were able to collect some stats from the SBA workout. The 60s were run on the turf at Charlotte Christian, with PBR relying on their stopwatches for the times on each athlete. The early summer organizational workout drew the attention of several area college coaches and there was a positive turnout for the players.
Below, our scouting staff breaks down some of the hitters that impressed over the 3 day period. This event allowed coaches an early look at the SBA players. PBR look forward to tracking the SBA teams this summer.
SBA Hitters' Notebook
Owen Green, LHP/OF, Ardrey Kell HS, 2026
Virginia Tech commit. Very athletic. Hands are direct and quick through the zone. Creates good extension out front providing gap to gap power. Showed the ability to go the other way in game with two hits through the 5-6 hole. Puts himself in good hitting positions. More power will come once he fills out.
On the mound, sat 84-85 and topped 86. Curveball 68-71. Fills up the zone with the fastball. Curveball is loopy but the speed difference causes hitters to be out in front.

Jackson Robbins, 1B/OF, Metrolina Christian HS, 2024
Slow controlled load. Coils around the back hip well. Has enough body awareness to maintain that stretch and separation until release. Rotational swing which gets on plane early and creates lift. Consistent contact out front allows him to show off pull side power. Was a tough out especially with two strikes. Consistently fouled good pitches off until he got a pitch he could handle.
Langston Rupert, OF, Combine Academy HS, 2024
6 ft 170 lb frame still has room to add strength. Quick twitch athlete. Quick hands stay tight to the body creating bat speed. Displayed pull side power in batting practice and during the game. Hit a triple to the left center gap in his first at bat. Displayed good plate discipline as well, drawing two walks. Ran a 6.8 60 yard dash.

Brady Thompson, SS, Providence HS, 2024
6’1 155 lb frame. Good actions at SS. Footwork is smooth and puts him in good positions to make a play. Stays tall throughout his swing. Stays connected driving the back hip through the zone to create bat speed.

Logan James, MIF, Cuthbertson HS, 2026
Lanky 5’11 125 lb frame has room to fill out. Leg kick and small load create rhythm. Had a feel for the barrel and making contact out front. Swing stays on a flat plane. Barrel gets on plane early and extends through the zone. Creates backspin out in front driving the ball to the gaps.

Owen Noonan, MIF, Catawba Ridge, 2024
5’9 165 lb frame. Inside out swing. Committed to going the other way throughout batting practice. Let the ball travel. Sprayed line drives the other way for most of the round.
