NC/SC Border Battle - SC Quick Hits

Eddie Tisdale
Executive Director of Scouting - PBRSC

For the second year, the NC/SC Border Battle was one of the most anticipated events of the summer.  This year saw the event moved to BB&T Point Stadium in High Point, NC, home of the High Point Rockers Independent Professional club.  Hosted at Winthrop in 2019, the 2020 event was suppose to be at UNC Charlotte, but moved to High Point with the ongoing NCAA Dead Period on recruiting.

With the move, the event saw more of a North Carolina flavor as most players and families are still working to navigate the ongoing COVID-19 issues.  Due to the NCAA Dead Period, the event was live streamed utilizing multiple camera angles to allow college coaches to view from their offices.

Position players were taken through a full pro-style workout, with a laser timed 60, full offensive workout, and a full defensive workout.  The pro-style workout was followed by a controlled scrimmage with pitchers throwing to live hitters.  PBR Scouts were on hand to evaluate and report on the players in attendance.

QUICK HITTERS
Billy Amick (3B/RHP, P27 Academy, 2021) - Clemson recruit. Strong frame with tons of juice. Has seen a recent rise in athleticism, ran a 6.84 at the Border Battle. Put up an event best 103 mph exit velo off the tee at the event and was 90 across the infield. Also threw a scoreless inning with an 86-89 mph FB and 72-73 mph CB.

Caleb Freeman (RHP, P27 Academy, 2021) -

Freeman was a big winner from the Border Battle event. His XL frame draws immediate attention and the FB showed serious life at 89-91mph. Freeman pounded the zone in a clean inning of work showing off his electric FB and pairing it with a nice 79 mph CH. Freeman has made a commitment to UNC Greensboro since the event.

Parker Hocutt (SS/2B, Cardinal Newman, 2022)
- The athletic infielder put together one of the best overall performances seen at the event. He carried over a solid round of BP with tons of barrels into his live AB's collecting two hits including a double. The profile, arm strength, and quickness suggest he will only improve and could fit into multiple infield positions at the next level.

Sean Hollister (RHP, Bishop England, 2021)
- 6-4, 165lbs with lengthy limbs and plenty of projection to dream on. Worked the FB up to 86 with more in the tank as he continues to develop. Showed a true SL at 77-81 with late bite. Will see the stock continue to rise as he matures physically.

Hunter Livingston (1B, P27 Academy, 2022)
- physical 1B took some healthy cuts in BP and maintained the bat speed in game. Showed enough juice to carry the gaps. Found himself in an advantage count in game and collected a sharp single.

John Wimmer (SS, Rock Hill, 2023)
- young INF prospect with big upside. Loose barrel in BP with quick hands and an athletic stance. Was up to 87 across the infield from SS with smooth actions and advanced skillset.

Colin Pascale (C, P27 Academy, 2022)
- Solid catching prospect showed accurate throws to the bag in the workout. He handled his pitchers well in game. Good bend in the hips. Hands work well on pitches inside the shoulders and are clean on pitches at the edges.

Nate Hoyt (OF, Bluffton, 2022)
- Lean athletic build. Recorded a 92 mph EV off the tee. Showed a line drive approach in BP using the whole field. Throws showed accuracy from the OF and the 83 mph velo will continue to trend up.

Walker Taylor (1B/OF, May River, 2022)
- Projectable build. LHH with a line drive approach. Used the whole field in BP with some loud contact. Solid defender at 1B showed good hands and smooth footwork around the bag. Will be a follow moving forward as he adds strength and continues his development.
