New England Insider: Uncommitted Underclass Spotlight - Andrew Ruggiero

Andrew RuggieroName: Andrew Ruggiero
Position: MIF/RHP
School: Joseph Case
Summer Ball: GBG Hawks Northeast 17u
Class: 2018
Ranked: 40th in New England

Overview: Uncommitted left-handed hitting middle infielder who could also pitch at the Division 1 level. The athleticism stands out as he plays the game and goes through workouts. Ranked 40th in New England for the Class of 2018, he is a must see for coaches searching for under the radar players. This guy has the potential to be a legit two-way guy. The frame will fill and the physical strength will improve as he develops. Good looking prospect, plays for the GBG Hawks in the summer. Below is the report from this last winter’s GBG indoor workout.

Scouting Report: 6-foot,165-pound legit two-way prospect. Worked out as a left-handed hitting middle infielder and a right-handed pitcher. Ran very well at the workout as well. Tons of potential with this guy. Ran a 3.6 thirty at the event. The glove is solid and the feet work in the infield. The arm, in the infield, comes from a slightly lower than ¾ slot. Threw 81 mph across the diamond. Definitely a guy who can stay in the middle of the field based on foot speed and arm strength. The bat has good potential to it from the left-side, tee exit velocity of 82 mph. The frame still needs strength to it. Sets up with a wide base and relaxed hand start. The bottom half of the swing is under control and the path is simple. Stays on the ball and inside it at contact, has an idea of how to handle the barrel. On the mound, very impressive for me. The fastball touched 83 mph with boar out of ¾ slot . Spun the ball at 69 mph and the changeup was 72 mph. The arm swing is long and loose to the front side of the body. The feet have a minor amount of crossfire to them. Stays with his arm during the delivery as he is methodical at the start. The spin pitch has good shape to it and projects to be a hard 11/7 breaking ball. The pitch is a knuckle spike breaking ball. The changeup is plus, the spin has fade and sink to it. The arm speed on it is done appropriately.
Tee Exit Velocity- 82 mph
INF Velocity- 81 mph
