At this point of the year, programs and players across the country are beginning their offseason training, or “shutdown” period.
With that, the slow down gives us a few months to digest the summer and fall seasons, as well as some players and prospects that we expect to lock in on over the next year or so. This is also the time of year where we begin to start thinking about our PBR Rankings across the country.
Here’s a list of 10 players in the 2023 class from across Canada, in no particular order, that we should keep an eye on as rankings begin to roll out.
Jimmy Dionne LHP / 1B / Seminaire Saint-Francois, QC / 2023Report: There’s a lot to like in a 6-4, lefty/lefty combo kid who can do it on both sides of the ball. On the mound, Dionne lives in the low 80s right now, but his best pitch is the breaking ball. He can throw it in any count, and once he gets better command of his fastball, he could bloom into a high-end 2023 arm. At the plate he’s strong, selective and aggressive. He gets a little too wide right now and tends to reach, but his strength allows him to fight in each AB. Defensively he plays with a high degree of IQ. Overall, he’s one of the more exciting players to watch in Quebec going forward.
