JUCO Player Spotlight - NEO: Kevin Esquilin Cruz

Scott Hood
Staff Writer

The uncommitted Sophomore utility man has been turning his big time tools into in game production for the Golden Norseman this season.  He's currently hitting at a .343 clip with six extra base hits and more walks than strikeouts.  The carrying tool is his run tool (6.4 in the 60) which has led to 31 stolen bases (tied for 6th in the nation) in 32 attempts.  He uses his wide base and good barrel control to spray the ball to all fields with a short and compact swing.  Primarily used as an outfielder that can cover a lot of ground and above average arm strength that has been clocked as high as 96 mph.  He also has shown good actions in the infield with a soft glove and quick transfers.  His ability to affect the game with his speed and be the type of player that can play all over the field makes him an easy fit to fill a need for a program at the next level.
