Looking back at the past week for Prep Baseball, April’s Player of the Month hails from the state of Mississippi as a highly touted draft prospect in the class of 2024, Draft HQ kicks off May with an updated Mock Draft and Draft Board, highlights from across the country as postseason play ramps up, uncommitted spotlights, trending and more.


NATIONAL NEWS

Player of the Month

After leading Jackson Prep HS (Jackson, MS) to an undefeated April, Prep Baseball’s first Offensive Player of the Month presented by Twin Tack Grips of the 2024 season is awarded to OF Konnor Griffin. The No. 2 prospect in the class of 2024 slashed .595/.706/1.135 with four home runs, 19 RBIs and 22 stolen bases over 12 games.

National HS Rankings


On Tuesday, April 30, Prep Baseball updated its National High School Rankings. With the top three remaining the same, 13 programs enter the top 50 that went unranked previously. See the full rankings and power rankings by state.

Player of the Week


From North Carolina, Prep Baseball’s National Player of the Week from April 22 to April 28 receives this award after dominating opposing batters over the last two weeks. Extending his streak of 27.1 innings without allowing a hit, LHP Gavin Maines (Forbush HS) from the class of 2024 struck out 16 batters over 6.1 innings of no-hit ball. MLB Draft League

On Thursday, May 2, Major League Baseball announced the extension of the MLB Draft League powered by Prep Baseball, through the 2030 season. Serving as the premier summer league for draft-eligible players, along with others post-draft to earn opportunities to be evaluated and signed by Major League organizations. Draft HQ


Mock Draft: On Wednesday, May 1, Prep Baseball Draft HQ released its latest MLB Mock Draft for the month of May. Comparing the March Mock Draft to now, the top three of Oregon State’s Travis Bazzana, Florida’s Jac Caglianone and Georgia’s Charlie Condon remain the same, however the rest of the draft sees a shakeup. Draft Board: Following the Mock Draft release, Friday, May 3, Prep Baseball Draft HQ dropped its updated MLB Draft Board. Unlike the Mock Draft, which is an attempt to project where and when each eligible prospect would be selected in the upcoming draft based on performance and organizational needs, the Draft Board serves as a pound-for-pound rankings of each prospect ahead of July. The War Room: In the latest episode of ‘The War Room’, Draft HQ Senior Advisor, D.J. Svihilik and VP of Scouting, Shooter Hunt welcome Paul Phillips from S2 Cognition. Discussing the impactful role the company plays in evaluating prospects, the trio explore how one’s cognitive ability relates to their offensive potential. On The Hunt/Coffee and Curveballs: Recently, VP of Scouting, Shooter Hunt traveled to the northeast and set up camp in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, seeing several of Prep Baseball’s top 50 prospects from the class of 2024. From a Super 60 standout to high-end two-way prospects and more, see what Hunt saw from his trip in the latest ‘Coffee and Curveballs’ with LakePoint Sports Corey McCartney and in ‘On The Hunt Draft Impact: Northeast Prospects’.

+ After catching a glimpse of ACC action in week nine, Director of College Scouting, David Seifert stayed in the Carolinas the following week to see in-conference matchups between North Carolina at NC State and Florida State at Wake Forest. Then, moving up to Louisville, Kentucky as the Cardinals took on the Clemson Tigers before finishing up with the Missouri Valley Conference’s Evansville and Missouri State in the two latest editions of ‘College Crosscheck’.
