Looking back at the past week for Prep Baseball, the 2024 All-American Game has a sunny future as it finds its new home, the 2024 MLB Draft Board sees an update, a shakeup in the National HS Rankings, uncommitted spotlights and more.


NATIONAL NEWS

2024 All-American Game

On Tuesday, March 19, Prep Baseball announced the location for the second annual All-American Game. A game that features the best prospects from the class of 2025 going toe-to-toe with the class of 2026, the event is taking its talents down to South Beach at the home of the Miami Marlins, LoanDepot Park in Miami, Florida. Taking place on Saturday, Sept. 14, see more information on last year’s event and what to look forward to this year.

National HS Rankings

In Prep Baseball’s National High School Rankings for the 2024 season, each team in the top-5 have shuffled around in the standings after the second longest winning streak in Florida’s history was snapped, wins over other top-ranked programs and more. With a new team ranked No. 1 in the nation, see how the updated National Top-50 Rankings shape out.

Player of the Week

This past week saw Parkview High School climb to Prep Baseball Georgia’s No. 1 spot in its Power 25 rankings after going unbeaten in three games against programs in its region. Leading the charge for Parkview was Prep Baseball’s March 11 to 17 National Player of the Week, ‘24 third baseman Cade Brown. Reaching base in every single plate appearance and two home runs, including a go-ahead grand slam, see more on Brown’s performance and other Player’s of the Week from around the country.

Draft HQ

 

+ Last week, Prep Baseball’s Draft HQ staff released its latest 2024 MLB Mock Draft. On Monday, they released their updated Draft Board of the top-200 prospects for this year’s draft. The Mock Draft aimed to match where each prospect will end up, the board ranks each prospect pound-for-pound. With the five prospects moving up in the top-10, plus over 30 new additions to the list, see where each prospect ranks on the Draft Board.

+ With its release, VP of Scouting, Shooter Hunt looked over the board’s 96 high school prospects and even saw a few in-person as he makes his way around the country. See which draft prospects have started the year off in an impactful manner in the latest “On The Hunt,

+ In the fifth “College Crosscheck” of the season, Director of College Scouting David Seifert went down to Tuscaloosa, Alabama for a top-15 matchup as last week’s No. 14 Alabama hosted No. 5 Tennessee. Out of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mid-Atlantic Scouting Director Brandon Hall took in UNC Wilmington taking on the Charlotte 49ers. See notes on draft prospects that stood out, video and more here.

+ In the most recent Coffee & Curveballs, Hunt and LakePoint Sports Corey McCartney break down the updated Draft Board and a select group of prospects that have seen a rise since the first board of the year.

+ In the first edition of Prep Baseball North Carolina’s “Inside The Rankings'' this week, Boraski highlights two players from the class of 2025 who remain uncommitted. Inside the top 30 for RHP’s see more information on Cannon Lee and Michael Gurganus.

+ In another “Inside The Rankings”, North Carolina Assistant Scouting Director Patrick Johnson looks into two uncommitted outfielders inside the state’s class of 2024 top-20. Bringing a blend of speed and power to their game is Brody Taylor and Carter Jeanbaptiste.

+ From North Carolina/Mid-Atlantic Scouting Director Brandon Hall, looking back at the past week, his recent Scout Blog highlights one draft prospect and one committed prospect within the state, as well as several uncommitted prospects from the class of 2024 that can help make an impact at the collegiate level next year. STATE-BY-STATE

California / On The Hunt

In the latest “On The Hunt”, taking a trip down to southern California, VP of Scouting Shooter Hunt was able to watch Prep Baseball’s No. 1 overall prospect in the class of 2024, players from the class of 2025 to keep an eye out for as they build their draft stock and several uncommitted prospects. Michigan

Saturday, March 9, Michigan’s Preseason All-State event took place with 79 prospects in attendance from the class of 2024 to 2027. The invite-only event saw the top prospects from around the state with a dozen pitchers throwing fastballs above 88 mph and 17 runners with 60-yard dashes under seven seconds. Minnesota

Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17, Prep Baseball Minnesota hosted their Preseason All-State event. The invite-only event saw breakout performances as prospects in the classes of 2025, 2026 and 2027 showcased their talents in front of scouts and college coaches. Tennessee

Last week saw the high school season start in the Volunteer State as baseball continues to creep up north. Featuring prospects across all classes, draft eligible, uncommitted and more, the Prep Baseball Tennessee staff provides their scout blog for opening week. Texas

North Texas Scouting Director Max Semler joins Prep Baseball with over 30 years of scouting experience at the professional level as an area scout for four Major League teams. Throughout the season, Semler will be watching some of the top draft prospects in the area before the 2024 MLB Draft. Grading these prospects on a 20-80 scale, see “Semler’s Prospect Reports” here.

Wisconsin

On Saturday, March 16, the last Preseason ID event of 2024 was held at the MOSH Performance Center in Franklin, Wisconsin. With nearly 210 propsects from across the state, the showcase hosted as the starting point for various players to be considered for invite-only events in the future.
