No.2 Stevenson’s senior first-baseman, the red-hot Patrick Wilson, hammered a two-run blast in the first inning and the Patriots never looked back, destroying Mundelein 15-2. Wilson drove home four runs for the Patriots (19-1; 7-1). Senior second baseman Teddy Heiser also homered and plated four Patriot runs. Senior DH Kory Cutler and junior 3B Mike Martin had 4-for-4 days at the plate as Stevenson had 19 hits.

 

The beneficiary of the Patriot onslaught was Northwestern-bound senior RHP Kyle Ruchim (3-1), who threw a complete game six-hitter allowing only one earned run and striking out nine. No.12 Mundelein falls to 16-5 and 4-4 in the North Suburban Lake.

 

In the North Suburban Prairie, University of Iowa recruit RHP Nick Hibbing struck out 13 in leading Lakes (13-9; 4-2) past rival Antioch 7-3. Hibbing improves to 5-0 on the mound for the Eagles.

 

In Southwestern Conference action on Wednesday, No. 17 Belleville East (14-5; 6-2) rallied past Edwardsville 3-2 on a two-run, game-winning single by senior Charlie Harris. The hit made a winner out of senior Stephen Sotiorpoulos, who improves to 3-1 on the mound. The win was the ninth consecutive victory for the rampaging Lancers, who host SWC leader O’Fallon (12-8; 6-1) today, Thursday at 4:15.

 

Belleville West (12-5; 6-2) romped past East St. Louis 14-1 in five innings. Senior catcher Alex Quinn had a pair of hits, including a double and three RBI for the Maroons. Senior Andrew Barton (1-0) picked up the win on the mound as the Maroons stayed in the hunt in the Southwestern.

 

In the Catholic League, No. 3 St. Laurence (22-1; 10-0 White) defeated Gordon Tech  14-4. Senior Tom Keating and junior Mike Chimera drove in five runs for the Vikings. Keating hit a grand slam and junior Kyle Wood added his 11^thhomer of the season for the White leaders.

 

No. 11 Providence (17-5; 9-0 Blue) defeated St. Ignatius 4-2 and No.5 St. Rita (20-3; 9-1Blue) kept pace with a 13-3 win over St. Francis de Sales.

 

Providence’s senior LF Kevin Davis had three hits, including the eventual game winner and two RBIs to propel the Celtics past the Wolfpack.

 

St. Rita was led by a 4-for-4 day from junior 1B Joe Filomeno, who hit his 10^th homer, a grand slam, and drove in five for the Mustangs.

 

No. 15 Mt. Carmel (17-5; 7-2 Blue) defeated De La Salle 3-2 behind sophomore LHP Frank Kelly (5-1). Caravan junior RF Brad Myjak won it for the Caravan with a two-run double. Kelly worked six-plus innings to pick up the win.

 

In the NCIC-Lincoln, Ottawa (13-5; 4-1) defeated La Salle-Peru 6-5. Senior second baseman Nathan Greene and junior catcher Neil Hanley went deep for Ottawa as they stay in the Lincoln race behind Streator (19-4; 6-0). John A. Logan C.C.-recruit senior RHP Davis Suarez (5-2) suffered the defeat for La Salle-Peru (6-13; 3-4)

 

In the Central State 8, No.9 Chatham Clenwood (14-2; 8-0) defeated Jacksonville 17-0 in five innings.  Junior RHP Phil Maton fired the five inning shutout and improved to 5-0 on the season. Junior Jake Lance homered twice and drove in five Titan runs. EIU-Bound catcher Jacob Reese was 3-for-3 with three RBI and junior SS Jake Fulks also had a 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI as the Titans won their 27^th consecutive CS8 game.

 

In the Western Big Six, Galesburg (13-8; 5-1) split with Quincy, losing the opener 2-0. The Streaks bounced back to take the nightcap 8-0. Quincy (8-13; 1-5), behind a two-hit shutout from senior RHP Nolan Kurfman, won the opener 2-0. Kurfman had a no-hitter for six innings. Galesburg cleanup hitter Nick Milligan broke up the no-hitter in the seventh.

 

In the nightcap, Galesburg’s Nate Olin pitched five shutout innings allowing a pair of hits. Milligan fired two shutout innings, closing out the Blue Devils in style by striking out the side in the seventh.

 

In Southern Illinois River-River Mississippi Division action on Tuesday, Anna-Jonesboro (19-4; 8-2) rolled past Du Quoin 7-1 to win the Mississippi Division championship. Wildcat sophomore RHP Brady Wright fired complete game three-hitter at the Indians and struck out 5.

 

In the Western Sun Geneva’s junior RHP Mike Monaghan (3-0) struck out 12 and threw a three-hit complete game as the Vikings routed Rochelle 12-1 in six innings. With the win the Geneva (15-5; 9-2)  takes over sole possession of first place in the Western Sun.

 

Glenbard South knocked De Kalb (13-5; 8-3) out of a first place tie with Geneva with a thrilling 4-0 victory in eight innings in DeKalb on Wednesday. DeKalb’s Cody Varga allowed one hit over the first seven innings for the Barbs…Glenbard South’s senior second baseman Mike Meath singled in the first run of the game in the eighth off of De Kalb’s Jake Lemay. Glenbard South’s 6-foot-8 senior RHP Dylan Rheault allowed three hits over the first seven innings to pick up the win and even his record at 3-3 on the season.

 

Kaneland (14-9; 7-4) scored three in the top of the seventh to defeat defending Western Sun champ Batavia 7-4. Senior SS Nate Tickle had a pair of hits for the Knights and hit safely in his 17^th consecutive game. Tickle (5-0) also picked up his fifth consecutive win on the mound for Kaneland who moves into a third place tie with Batavia (10-10; 7-4).

 

In the West Suburban Silver, York (10-10; 5-4) defeated Downers Grove North 5-4 behind former Porsche Player of the week senior LHP Matt Pisani. Pisani scattered six hits in his complete game victory and improved to 3-1 on the season. Bradley University-bound 1B Steve Adkins went deep for the Dukes as they salvage a game from DG North (12-8; 7-5).

 

In the Mid-Suburban League, Buffalo Grove (12-7; 5-2) won a thrilling 1-0 victory over Barrington as Bison senior RHP Greg Sanders (4-1) outdueled Barrington’s 6-foot-4 John A. Logan J.C. recruit Sean Buchholz. Sanders allowed two hits. Senior OF Jeremy Salzman singled home the only run of the game in the first inning off of Buchholz. Buchholz struck out 10 and falls to 3-2 on the mound for Barrington (11-11; 3-4). With the win B-G rolls into a first-place tie with Hersey.

 

Fremd’s senior LHP Clint Terry (5-3) continues to roll as Fremd (10-7; 5-2) defeated Hersey 7-1.Terry fired a five-hit complete game at the Huskies, striking out seven in leading the Vikings into a first-place tie in the West. Viking senior 2B Kevin Ciardiello and senior RF Evan Wright each had two hits and two RBI for the Vikings.

 

Prospect junior OF Peter Bonahoom doubled three times and drove in four as the Knights blasted surprising Hoffman Estates 12-0 in five innings on Wednesday. Senior RHP John Coen fired the five-inning shutout at Hoffman Estates (9-10; 5-2)

 

In the Southwest Suburban Blue, No.20 Lincoln-Way Central (17-5; 5-1) and Lockport (14-7; 3-1) continued to roll.

 

No. 20 Lincoln-Way Central blew past Joliet 12-3 behind the Knights hard-hitting catcher T.J. Seibt, who had three hits, including a home run and plated five Knights. Senior CF Chad Podkulski also homered for the Knights and had three hits and a pair of RBI. Senior RHP Bryan Hennessey (5-2) picked up the win on the mound.

 

Lockport’s junior RHP Jake Bulthuis (5-1) no-hit Minooka on April 17. On Wednesday against Homewood Flossmoor (13-4; 1-3), Bulthuis was at it again, holding the Vikings hitless through six innings. The hard-throwing junior gave up a run and two hits in the seventh leading the Porters to an easy 8-1 win.Bulthuis struck out nine. Senior CF Josh Marszalek (2-for-4, 2B-RBI) doubled and senior Jory Koehler launched a home run as the Porters provided an early third-inning exit for H-F ace, Aaron Hauge (4-1). Junior catcher Brenden Dunleavy hammered a two-run shot for the hot Porters.

 

In the Jackie Robinson South, Whitney Young (13-10; 8-2) slipped past Kenwood 6-5 in eight innings. Dolphins 6-foot-2 senior catcher Steve Giannoni homered and had four hits and three RBI to keep the Dolphins in a tie with Simeon.

 

Simeon romped past Morgan Park 12-5 as senior Charles Aldridge picked up the win on the mound. Aldridge’s battery mate sophomore catcher Blake Hickman and junior Quintin Richardson spearheaded the Wolverine offense after spotting the Mustangs a 5-0 lead. 

 

In the Southwest Prairie, No. 6 Plainfield North (18-2; 11-0) won14-4 in five innings over rival Plainfield Central. Junior Brain Evak homered, doubled and drove in five runs to lead the Tigers to victory. Senior RHP Scott Vachon improved to 5-0 on the season with a solid four-inning performance.

 

Minooka (20-5; 9-2) kept pace with Plainfield North with a 9-3 win over Romeoville. Indian sophomore LHP Josh Jimenez picked up the win, striking out 10 and improved to 7-0 on the campaign. Minooka senior Dan Cooper had three hits and drove in a pair of runs.
