Uncommitted Prospect Watch: RHP Eric Nerl from Mariemont

After a successful spring season at Mariemont High School in Cincinnati, right-handed pitcher Eric Nerl finds himself sorting through the recruiting process.

The 58th ranked prospect in the Class of 2012 features a fastball that sits 83-86 mph. Relying on an aggressive approach, Nerl consistently attacks the strike zone.

He says, “My biggest strength is my ability to consistently locate my fastball at any point in the count.”

In addition, Nerl uses a 70-73 mph curveball with 12/6 movement to keep hitters off balance.

During the spring, Nerl compiled a 5-1 record with 41 innings pitched. He struck out 70 batters while putting together a 1.15 WHIP and a 1.85 ERA.

As of late, Nerl has been receiving the most attention from Eastern Kentucky, Toledo, Marietta College, Heidelberg College, and Seton Hill.

Looking ahead, he says, “I am open to anything that comes my way … I have received one offer but at this point I am keeping everything open.”

As a two-sport athlete, Nerl has not been attending fall prospect camps. But, when his football season comes to an end, he will be attending prospect camps in the winter.
