Uncommitted Prospect Watch: OF Stephen Scaccia from Willoughby South
September 23, 2011
Scaccia, a talented right-handed hitting and right-handed throwing outfielder, impressed on the summer circuit. From the outfield, his arm strength topped out at 90-91 miles per hour. In the 60-yard dash, he regularly registered times between 6.7 to 6.75.
Reflecting on his strengths, Scaccia notes, “As an outfielder, I would say my speed, arm strength, and ability to read a ball as it jumps off the bat are my strengths.”
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound prospect has been hearing from Ohio State, Kentucky, Indiana State, Mercyhurst College, and Lake Erie College.
As he narrows his college search, Scaccia says, “I am looking for a school with high academic achievements, as well as a one where the baseball program is of high intensity and somewhere I would get in and play by at least my sophomore year.”
Scaccia, who has a 3.5 accumulative grade point average, is ranked in the top ten percent of his class. In the future, he hopes to study astronomy or athletic training.
Scaccia’s high school team, Willoughby South, made the trip to Huntington Park this June as one of the final four teams in the Division I state championship. During the spring, he was named first team all county as he hit .314 with 4 doubles, 2 triples, and 3 home runs.
During the summer, he participated on the Players I Bulls Baseball Academy with fellow uncommitted prospect, right-handed pitcher John Martilotta (63rd ranked player in the Class of 2012).
