The Top Prospect Showcase at Rock Bridge HS in Columbia drew some of the top Class of 2012 and 2013 prospects from all parts of Missouri, and a few Illinois participants.

Here?s a recap of some of the top prospects at the event, along with results. A full report of the event, along with complete player write-ups, will follow in the next few days.

The top overall prospect for the event was Breckin Williams, a Class of 2012 OF/SS from Webb City HS. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound athletically gifted Williams pounded the ball from both the right and left side of the plate, showing a combination of power and finesse. In the OF, Williams showed quick and athletic movements to the ball, showing off a plus, accurate arm (82mph) with carry. Williams also showed to be a sure handed SS, with soft hands and following the ball into the glove every time, Williams has a quick release and fired 79mph across the diamond. Williams also showed some speed with a 7.12 in the 60.

Ethan Schlesner, C/3B, Logan-Rogersville HS, Class of 2012-The physically strong Schlesner showed versatility both behind the plate and at 3B, while putting on one of the most impressive hitting displays of the event. Behind the plate, Schlesner showed advanced receiving and blocking actions, with an accurate 1.98 pop time down to second. In the infield, Schlesner has sure hands with a quick, clean transfer and plus arm (84 mph) across the diamond. Offensively, the power hitting Schlesner doesn?t get cheated on his swings; with good bat speed and a level swing through extension, Schlesner has gap to gap power and should be among the top power hitters statewide next season.

Ryan Phillips, RHP/SS, Rock Bridge HS, Class of 2012-Recently committing to Mizzou, the 5-foot-10, 180 pound Phillips is top all around talent. On the mound, Phillips uses a high ? delivery and was consistently 84 mph with his fastball, that had late movement. Phillips also threw a 10-to-4 breaking ball (71 mph) and changeup (76 mph) with some arm side run and depth. In the field, Phillips showed to be as sure handed as they come. Phillips has quick and soft hands, and always found a way to get his momentum going toward his target, firing 81 mph across the diamond. At the plate, Phillips uses his strong lower half and quick hands to generate bat speed, while consistently finding the sweet spot on the bat driving the ball hard gap to gap.

Mitch Klug, SLUH, SS, Class of 2012- The athletic 6-foot-2, 185-pound Klug showed to be one of the top fielders, and set his self apart from all participants by showing off his speed, recording an event best 6.86 in the 60.  In the field, Klug demonstrated a good approach to the ball with above average range, arm (81 mph), and glove. Klug showed to be as sure handed as they come at shortstop. At the plate, Klug has a short and compact swing that allowed him to spray the ball to all fields. Klug is also a standout wide receiver for the SLUH football team.

Lex Kaplan, Ladue HS, OF, Class of 2013- The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Kaplan impressed with his overall athleticism and overall tools. Kaplan is a projectable prospect who showed a balanced and quiet approach at the plate and demonstrated a powerful left-handed swing that produced excellent backspin carry. In the outfield, Kaplan was quick to the ball with athletic footwork and showed the ability to catch everything with his momentum coming forward, showing a plus arm (79 mph) with good carry and accuracy. Kaplan also ran a 7.17 in the 60.
