Brother Rice’s (17-6; 8-2 Blue) Koziol brothers teamed up to shutdown No. 3 St. Laurence 5-2 in a Catholic League crossover on Thursday in Mt. Greenwood. Sophomore Ryan Koziol fired a complete game three-hitter and senior LSU-bound Kevin drove in two runs as the Crusaders stayed in the hunt for a third consecutive Catholic Blue Division crown.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Koziol brothers took over the game with their bats. Kevin’s sac-fly tied the game at 2. Ryan then blasted a two-run double and the Crusaders picked up the fourth run of the inning on a Viking miscue.
Ryan Koziol improves to 5-0 on the mound for the Crusaders. He fanned six.
No. 17 Belleville East’s nine-game winning streak came to an error-filled end as O’Fallon (13-8; 7-1), benefitting from 11 Belleville East errors, blasted the Lancers 13-2 on Thursday. Twelve of the thirteen O’Fallon runs were unearned as tough-luck loser senior RHP Kenny May falls to 5-2, in Thursday’s crucial Southwestern Conference Showdown.
O’Fallon senior RHP Milles Quintal fired a complete-game six hitter. Both runs were unearned as Quintal improves to 4-1 on the mound. Panther junior Sam Summerlin had three hits and drove in five big Panther runs as O’Fallon stays atop the SWC standings…
In other Southwestern Conference action on Thursday, No. 10 Granite City (17-3; 6-2) moved into second place ahead of Belleville East with a 3-1 win over Alton. Edwardsville (13-5; 5-4) surprised Belleville West 6-5. The preseason favorite Maroons fall to 12-6; 6-3 in the SWC.
Oak Forest’s junior OF Tim Barry continued his assault on the baseball as Barry hammered two more homers, his fourth and fifth this week, in leading the Bengals to a 13-3 South Suburban crossovers win over Richards (17-8; 9-2 Red). On Wednesday, Barry also hit a pair of home runs against Brother Rice. Barry drove in three runs against Richards and has now hit nine home runs this season. In just his third year, Barry now has 34 career home runs. Oak Forest improves to 14-5 and 11-2 in the SSC-Blue.
Shepard (13-8; 11-1 Red) rolled past TF North 11-3 in a South Suburban crossover game led by senior Jeff Adduci. Aducci homered and drove in three as the Astros open up a 1 ½ lead in the SSC-Red.
No.6 Plainfield North (19-2; 12-0) rallied past Plainfield Central 8-7 in eight innings in a Southwest Prairie Conference battle. Senior Alex Molek’s single in the bottom of the eighth won it for the Tigers. Senior catcher Zach Pacanowski led the Tigers with two homers and five RBIs. Coupled with Minooka’s (20-6; 9-3) loss to Romeoville, 22-11, Plainfield North now enjoys a three game lead over the Indians in the SWPC.The two teams will open a three game series in Plainfield on Tuesday.
Lake Park (13-6; 7-4) routed St. Charles East 13-3 in a Upstate 8 battle in Roselle on Thursday. Senior Mark Ostrowski hit a grand slam to lead the Lancers. Seniors, catcher Jake McNamara and Matt Kaiser also went deep in the Lancers romp. Senior RHP Trevor Koehn improved to 3-2 with the win. St. Charles East (14-6; 8-3) will host Lake Park in a big twin-bill on Saturday, at 10

Matt Wivinis tossed a four-hitter to lead No. 7 Downers Grove South in a 7-1 victory over Lyons Township. The Mustangs improve to 18-5.
Highland Park hammered rival Deerfield 15-2 behind sophomore catcher Jason Goldstein, who went 4-for-4 with a homer, double and four RBI.
New Trier continued to stay hot with a 9-2 win over Niles West. Conor Healy paced the Trevians’ attack by going 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI.
