The Top Outfielders from the Top Prospect Showcase

Ohio?s first annual Top Prospect event has concluded. Over the next few days, we will break down the top prospects from the event and eventually conclude with the top overall list. Today, we cover the outfielders.
Top 2012 Outfield Prospects for the Event
Anthony Vagnier, OF, Logan Elm? The 6-foot-2, 185-pound well-built athlete is a left-handed throwing and right-handed hitting outfielder. From the outfield, he threw a consistent 84 mph. While he does not show elite level straight-line speed, Vagnier showed consistent 6.9 60-yard dash times. At the plate, he uses a balanced approach with a short stride and an explosive lower half. His quick bat speed and short path to the ball generates gap-to-gap power.
Kyle Nowlin, OF, Harrison? The 6-foot-1, 195-pound athlete passes the look with his solid, muscular build. He is a strong right-handed hitting and right-handed throwing outfielder, that checks in with plus speed at a 6.7 60-yard dash. From the outfield, he displayed long arm action that generated carry on his throws, which checked in at 79 mph. Offensively, the ball jumps off his bat. He uses an explosive lower half and fast bat speed to generate pull power.
Jacob Brobst, OF, Bishop Watterson- The 6-foot-3, 175-pound athlete is a tall and lanky prospect. He is a right-handed hitting and throwing outfielder, who checks in with 6.67 speed. From the outfield, he displayed quick, over the top arm action that produces 79 mph velocity. At the plate, he uses a short, compact swing that produces consistent line drives to opposite field. He needs to better incorporate his lower half to add additional explosiveness and power to his swing.
Mitch Coughlin, OF, Benjamin Logan- The 6-foot-1, 185-pound athlete is a long, but muscular prospect. He is a right-handed hitting and right-handed throwing outfielder, who is ideally suited for right field. He registered a 6.93 60-yard dash. From the outfield, he displayed long, over the top arm action that generated a velocity of 84 mph. Offensively, he uses a quick, level swing to generate gap-to-gap power.

<!-Diamyn Hall, OF, Centerville- The 5-foot-11, 190-pound outfielder showed 6.85 speed and 80 mph from the outfield.
<!-PJ Morgan, OF, Hilliard Davidson- The 6-foot, 175-pound outfielder showed 6.77 speed and 73 mph from the outfield.
<!-Tyler Barker, OF, Northmont- The 5-foot-9, 165-pound outfielder showed 6.89 speed and 76 mph from the outfield.
Top 2013 Outfield Prospects for the Event
Matt Smith, OF, Fredericktown- The 5-foot-10, 190-pound solid athlete shows an exceptionally strong lower half. He is a left-handed hitting and left-handed throwing outfielder that has proven to be one of the top outfielders in the Class of 2013. Due to an injury, he did not run the day of the event, but he has checked in between 6.7-6.8 in the past. From the outfield, he uses a loose, high ¾ arm slot that generated 84 mph velocity. At the plate, he uses a smooth load with fast bat speed to produce gap-to-gap power.
Justin Wampler, OF, Moeller- The 5-foot-9, 150-pound athlete may appear undersized, but he packs plenty of punch in the field and at the plate. He is a left-handed hitting and right-handed throwing outfielder that shows 7.01 speed in the 60-yard dash. From the outfield, he uses a loose arm action and a high ¾ arm slot to generate a consistent velocity of 79 mph. At the plate, he displays a balanced, athletic approach. He uses a short, compact swing and backside approach to generate consistent line drives.
Zach Sterry, OF, Lexington- The 5-foot-11, 190-pound athlete has a thick, solid build. He is a left-handed hitting and right-handed throwing outfielder. He showed off surprising speed with a 6.9 60-yard dash. At the next level, he likely projects as a left fielder. He uses short arm action and a high ¾ arm slot to generate 77 mph velocity from the outfield. At the plate, Sterry showed one of the better left-handed swings at the event. He uses a balanced, athletic approach and a long stride. He shows fast bat speed and an uphill path that creates power to all fields.
Tom Stoffel, OF, Northmont- The 5-foot-10, 165-pound athlete has a short, but solid frame. Also recognized as one of the 2013 pitchers at the event, Stoffel also proved to be one of the best outfielders in his class. He is a left-handed hitting and left-handed throwing prospect, who showed 7.34 speed in the 60-yard dash. From the outfield, he needs to quick his exchange, but his loose, high ¾ arm slot generates a consistent 82 mph velocity. At the plate, he proved to be a gap-to-gap hitter with a level swing path and balanced approach at the plate.
Chris Ramsey, OF, Hilliard Darby- The 5-foot-10, 175-pound athlete shows the makings of an ideal leadoff hitter. He is a left-handed hitting and left-handed throwing outfielder. Because of an injury, he was not able to run, but he is clearly an athletic prospect. In the outfield, he consistently plays through the ball and shows loose arm action coming from a high ¾ arm slot. His velocity checked-in at 78 mph. At the plate, he uses a short, compact, level swing to show the makings of a consistent line drive hitter. With additional development and maturation, he will add power over time.

Masashi Sakamoto, OF, Dublin Jerome- 6-foot-1, 170-pound outfielder showed 7.23 speed and 82 mph from the outfield.
Ben Spitznagel, OF, Colerain- 5-foot-9, 155-pound outfielder showed 6.8 speed and 72 mph from the outfield.
Dominic, Tiberi, Dublin Coffman- 5-foot-11, 165-pound outfielder showed 6.9 speed and 76 mph from the outfield.
Top 2014 Outfield Prospects for the Event
Riley Mahan, OF, Moeller- The 6-foot-2, 165-pound athlete was one of two 2014 prospects invited to attend the inaugural Top Prospect Event. While he may be young, the talented outfielder from Cincinnati held his own amongst his older peers. He has a tall, lanky build that will surely fill out in time. He registered a time of 7.1 with the 60-yard dash. In the outfield, the right-handed throwing prospect uses a long and loose throwing action that registered 82 mph. At the plate, Mahan shows a quiet confidence. He uses a long stride, smooth load, and short, uphill path to the ball to generate pull power to right field.
