Stoffel's Starting the Recruiting Process
September 12, 2011
The 5-foot-10, 165-pound outfielder and left-handed pitcher has made a name for himself through his success in the high school and summer seasons.
In July, Stoffel put together an impressive performance at PBR’s Top Prospect Event. From the outfield, he registered 82 mph. In batting practice, he used a short, compact swing to spray line drives to all fields. On the mound, he flashed an 82-84 mph fastball with arm side run from a high ¾ arm slot. His curveball, which had late breaking, 12/6 movement, clocked-in at 68-69 mph.
On September 1st, Stoffel did not have a shortage of teams sending emails and letters to initiate the recruiting process.
Local schools, such as Ohio, Wright State, Kent State, Xavier, and Miami, expressing interest, one would think that Stoffel in Ohio.
But, he is also hearing from out of state programs such as Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Texas Tech, and Georgia Tech.
Reflecting on the recruiting process, Stoffel notes, “My life has been very busy. It’s pretty time consuming juggling school, lifting, hitting, and homework everyday as it is…”
One may ask, what does he do with his free time? “You just get on the computer if you have any free time during the day and send some emails back. I try to stay on top of it, so the emails don’t pile up.”
This past summer, the 10th ranked prospect in the Class of 2013 played for the Tipp City Lumber Company as well as the Cincinnati Flames. Next summer, he will be a full-time member of the 17U Cincinnati Flames.
During the high school season, Stoffel hit .455 with 46 hits and 34 runs. In the process, he broke his school’s record for doubles (16) while also compiling three triples and two homeruns.
In 2011, Stoffel and his Northmont teammates lost to Lakota East, the eventual Division I state champions, in the regional semifinals. The game was a nail biter with Lakota East coming on top with a score of 1-0.
Looking ahead to next spring, Stoffel has set forth some pretty clear goals. I want to three-peat as league champions and get as far we can in the playoffs.”
