Recruiting news from around the state
July 30, 2011
Few, if any Class of 2012 prospects have seen their stock soar more this summer than St. Rita C/SS Zach Soria. Soria capped his incredible spring and summer campaigns by recently committing to Louisville. Soria earned Prep Baseball Report third-team All-State honors as a junior after the athletic 5-foot-11 multi-positional standout batted .476 with 18 doubles, 4 homers, 40 RBI, 51runs and held a .591 on-base percentage for the Mustangs.
For the majority of the season, Soria played shortstop at St. Rita, chiefly out of necessity, despite being a primary catcher. This summer, Soria proved that he is without question one of the premier defensive catchers in the state. Soria joins first-team All-State RHP Kyle Funkhouser from Oak Forest HS in Louisville?s recruiting class.
Walther Lutheran teammates Chris Stevens and Shaquille Cockrell, who helped lead the Broncos to a surprising runner-up finish in Class 2A, have both committed to Alcorn State. Stevens, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound INF, batted .510 with 8 homers and 39 RBI for Walther Lutheran as a junior.
Jordan Chudacoff, a Class of 2011 RHP from New Trier HS, has committed to Georgetown University. Chudacoff will attend Lawrenceville Prep School in the fall and be eligible at Georgetown in 2012.
