Scott Effross, the 40th ranked prospect and one of the top pitchers left on the 2012 recruiting board in Ohio, committed to the Indiana Hoosiers. After a lengthy process and much consideration, he made his final decision this week. Learn more about his path towards college baseball ... 

 

 

PBR: Why did you choose Indiana? 

Effross: I chose Indiana University because of the great academics they offer and of how comfortable I felt with the coaching staff 

 

PBR: Did you want to attend a school outside of Ohio?

Effross: I honestly didn't care where the school was in proximity to me; I just wanted to find a school that I could compete at, academically and athletically.

 

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Effross: I was considering Michigan State, Ohio State, Cincinnati, and Miami University, among others.

 

PBR: Where did Indiana first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?

Effross: I sent Coach Neal a tape about 6 months ago, and until their Prospect Camp, they as a staff had never seen me before. Coach Smith and Coach Neal felt I could add something to their program and gave me an offer. My family felt very comfortable with them and felt it would be the right fit.

 

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Effross: Coach Smith said I could come in freshman year and make an impact, and I am ready to fill any role they need me to.

 

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Indiana?

Effross: I feel that the movement on my fastball is my biggest strength as a pitcher and that's what gets me outs.

 

PBR: During the summer, you play for the T3 Pelicans. How did this experience help you achieve your goal of playing college baseball?

Effross: Playing for T3 this summer gave me a lot of experience against great competition. It helped me gain knowledge on how to throw to different types of hitters and refine my pitches and work on location.

 

PBR: How did playing with players like Forrest Perron (Cincinnati recruit) and Michael Marsinek (Eastern Michigan recruit) help you develop as a player?

Effross: I've been playing with Forrest and Mike for a three years now, and throughout that time, I've thought they create an atmosphere of higher competition and have pushed me to be better and more competitive myself. They will both do great things at the next level and beyond.

 

PBR: What was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Effross: Making it to the CABA High School World Series championship game.

 

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Effross: My parents for always pushing me to compete at a higher level of everything I do in life and always getting the most out of me.

 

PBR: What were your stats for this spring season at Twinsburg?

Effross: This spring, I had a 2.27 ERA over 49.33 IP, with 46 strikeouts and 12 walks.

 

PBR: What are your team and individual goals for your senior season?

As a team, I want to compete in every game we play and to win our league for the 4th time in 5 years. As a pitcher, I want to work on my curveball, sit more consistently in the upper 80's, and eliminate the number of walks I had.

 

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Effross: A tie between Forrest Perron, Jeff Murray, and Alex Havens.
