Prep Baseball announces Bret Schwartz as Oklahoma's new scouting director
September 23, 2024
Prep Baseball is proud to welcome Bret Schwartz as our new Oklahoma Scouting Director. A high-level talent evaluator whose tireless work ethic led him to become a collegiate hall of fame athlete, Schwartz brings a wealth of knowledge and experiences to Prep Baseball.
Schwartz comes to Prep Baseball from Emporia State University, where he served as the recruiting coordinator for the last six years. Nicknamed the “Schwartzstop,” he starred at Division II powerhouse University of Central Missouri, where he started every game for four years, leading the Mules to two World Series berths while earning numerous awards, ultimately culminating in being inducted into the Central Missouri Hall of Fame in 2020.
“I couldn’t be more excited that Bret Schwartz is on our team,” said Prep Baseball President Sean Duncan. “He’s a winner, on and off the field, has a keen scouting eye, a tireless work ethic and, above all, has a passion for helping players in their baseball journey. Bret’s knowledge and energy will resonate, which will ultimately benefit all the players, parents and coaches across Oklahoma.”
Schwartz takes over as the Oklahoma Scouting Director for Scott Hood, who is now on Oral Roberts’ coaching staff. While Hood will be missed, our scouting footprint in Oklahoma won’t miss a beat with Schwartz. Andy Urban, Prep Baseball’s original Oklahoma Scouting Director, will work closely with Schwartz as part of Urban’s Central Scouting Supervisor responsibilities.
Prior to his work at Emporia State, Schwartz coached five years at Blue Springs High School in Missouri. As a player, Schwartz ended his illustrious career as the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) all-time career and single-season leader in assists, HBPs, third in career hits, second in runs while twice earning All-American honors, Freshman of the Year, Player of the Year, to name a few accolades.
“I am extremely excited to join the team at Prep Baseball,” Schwartz said. “As a college baseball coach, I regularly relied on the scouting efforts and relationships of the Prep Baseball staff, the high-level tournaments throughout the region, and the trusted, verified metrics from utilizing the leading technology in our sport. I look forward to providing a platform for amateur players to showcase their abilities to coaches at the next level, and am grateful for the opportunity to cover the baseball-rich state of Oklahoma.”
Now Schwartz will bring his baseball experiences, connections and passions for scouting to Oklahoma’s prep baseball scene. Schwartz will work tirelessly to bring to you the most comprehensive high school baseball information Oklahoma has ever seen, and provide scouting coverage to all corners of the state.
But he can’t do it alone.
