PBR talks with Southeastern Illinois College commit Eric Burnett

Eric Burnett a 6'-190 lb. first baseman from New Albany High School recently committed to play baseball at Southeastern Illinois College. Here is our conversation with him...

PBR: Why did you choose Southeastern Illinois College?
Eric: It was just a really good fit I felt that I can come and make a huge impact.

PBR: Junior College is questioned because it is an unknown! What benefits did you see from signing at a JC versus a 4 year school?
Eric: I saw it as an opportunity for me to have a great chance to play and I'm not tied down for 4 years like I would be at a bigger D1 or D2 school. I also feel comfortable knowing I won't lose a year of eligibility when I want to transfer.

PBR: Who else was recruiting you?
Eric: I talked with Olney Central and Franklin College.

PBR: Was it important to stay close home?
Eric: No, but it’s a comfort knowing that I am not far from home.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Eric: They expect me to be a major contributor to the team as soon as I get to campus in the fall.

PBR: What were your expectations about recruiting heading into the summer?
Eric: I wanted to check out different schools and have a decision made by the start of my senior year so I didn’t have to worry.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Southeastern Illinois College?
Eric: I feel my biggest strength is hitting. I can contribute with getting on base and driving in runs.

PBR: How has travel baseball helped your development as a player?
Eric: It has helped become a better ball player while facing guys from all across the country.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Eric: My dad, he has always been there for me from hitting in the side yard when I was younger, to watching me play for sectional championships
.
PBR: What were your stats for this spring season at New Albany?
Eric: .417 Average, 39 RBIs, 3 HRS, 9 2B.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher/hitter that you have faced in Indiana?
Eric: AJ Reed, my freshman year in the Evansville North regional.
