Zach Schneider, a 6-foot LHP from Warren HS, has committed to Webster University in St. Louis. Schneider enjoyed a breakout junior campaign in which he posted a 5-2 record with 3 saves and a 1.44 ERA last spring. He tallied 56 strikeouts in 44 innings, and tossed a no-hitter in the summer state regionals to help Warren advance to the Elite Eight.
Kyle Huber, a hard-hitting left-handed hitting 1B/LHP from Lane Tech HS, has committed to Lewis University. Huber has been a middle-of-the-lineup hitter for Lane Tech since his sophomore year.
David Parkinson, a RHP from Marissa HS, has committed to Southwest Illinois College. Parkinson helped Marissa to a second-place finish in Class A as a junior last year.
Steve Beckham, a RHP from Mt. Vernon HS, has committed to Olivet-Nazarene HS. Beckham went 6-1 with a 1.95 ERA as a junior.
In more belated news, Brian Baldwin, a 6-foot-6, 230-pound RHP/1B from Brother Rice HS, has committed to Cisco JC in Texas. As a junior, Baldwin played an integral role in the Crusaders’ 27-game winning streak, finishing the season 2-0 on the mound while batting .313 with 5 homers, 6 doubles and 38 RBI.
Matt Morse, who’s one of the top Class of 2010 middle infielders in the state, has transferred to Sandwich HS from Aurora Christian HS. Morse, who led Aurora Christian to the Class 2A supersectionals last year, is signed to play at the University of Alabama-Birmingham next year.
LHP Taylor Eikenberry, who starred at Rock Falls HS, has transferred from Baylor University and is now enrolled at Iowa Western CC. As a junior in 2008, Eikenberry played a critical role in leading the Rockets to a state runner-up finish in Class 3A. Eikenberry, missed his senior season last year with an injury.
