More top prospects pick their schools
August 13, 2011
Alex Bee, a left-handed hitting catcher from Chatham Glenwood HS, has committed to Kansas State University. As a junior, the athletic 6-foot, 175-pound Bee batted .396 with 5 homers, 8 doubles and 34 RBI for the Titans.
The University of Illinois landed two coveted prospects when it received commitments from Neuqua Valley RHP Nick Blackburn and Streator 1B/3B Ryan Nagle. Blackburn, a 6-foot-2, 180-pounder, emerged in the spring and summer as one of the top right-handed prospects in the state. Blackburn operates from a lower-3/4 arm slot and has heavy sink on his upper-80s fastball, in addition to an advanced slider.
Nagle, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound left-handed hitter, followed up a stellar spring with a huge summer. Nagle very well may have been the most impressive hitter in the summer months, showing a consistent power left-handed swing. In the spring, Nagle tallied 20 doubles, 8 homers and 41 RBI for Streator.
Jason Scholl, a physical left-handed hitting catcher from Glenbrook North HS, has committed to Eastern Illinois University. The 6-foot, 190-pound Scholl has big left-handed power potential, in addition to a strong arm behind the plate. Scholl helped lead Glenbrook North to a surprising run to the 4A supersectionals and a No. 5 overall ranking.
Trevor Swaney, a RHP/INF from Wheaton Academy HS, has committed to Wright State University. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Swaney impressed at the PBR Top Prospect Showcase in June behind his 85-87 mph fastball and feel for three pitches. As a junior, the two-way standout posted a 6-2 record and a 1.79 ERA on the mound while batting .455 at the plate.
