More prospects pick their schools
January 6, 2011
Weston Mason, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound LHP/1B from Mt. Vernon HS, has committed to John A. Logan JC. Mason emerged at the Prep Baseball Report Unsigned Senior Showcase in October as a prospect to pay close attention to. A physically impressive athlete, Mason displayed a clean arm action with a fastball that consistently worked down in the zone, topping at 84 mph. His best pitch, however, was his changeup that had late fade. He also showed feel for a 72-75 mph slider. At the plate, Mason has quick bat and left-handed power potential, while running an impressive 7.01 60.
Mason, who?s ranked No. 74 in the Class of 2011, marks the sixth top 100 prospect John A. Logan has landed, joining Teutopolis LHP Derek Thompson (No. 8 overall), Harrisburg 3B/OF Keelin Rasch (No. 12), Harlan OF/RHP Dontrell Rush (No. 27), Teutopolis C Derek Repking (No. 37) and T.F. South RHP Anthony Spangler (No. 80).
In other recruiting news, Ty Weber, a RHP/INF from Morton HS, has committed to Grace College in Indiana. At the Unsigned Senior Showcase in October, Weber pounded the strike zone with a fastball that consistently registered in the low 80s, topping at 84 mph. Weber displayed a smooth high ? arm action and flashed a 12/6 curveball with tight, short break.
Justin Wolter, a 6-foot RHP from Herscher HS, has committed to Kankakee Community College. At a past PBR Showcase, Wolter showed a mid-80s fastball and a sharp breaking ball.
Cody Burton, an OF/RHP from Danville HS, has committed to Danville Community College. Earlier in the week, we erroneously reported that a different Cody Burton, a senior INF/RHP from Oswego East, had committed to DACC. We regret the error.
The next PBR Unsigned Senior Showcase is coming up on Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Max. Limited spots are still available. Click Here for more information.
