Lebanon Tigers 8 vs. Sheridan Black Hawks 6

Junior Brenden Shearer's 2 out, 1-2 count 2B to the left field wall drove in a pair of runs in the top half of the 7th inning to lead the Lebanon Tigers to victory at Sheridan on Monday night.  The host Blackhawks (0-1), much improved from a season ago, played well but weren't enough to tame the Tigers (1-0).

The Tigers opened up the scoring in their half of the second inning.  After starting pitcher Jacob Shike (Sr.) led off the inning by reaching on an error, he was signled over to 2nd by Shearer.  Senior catcher Zach Butner then drove in a run with a base hit.  Junior Mitchell Starkeys RBI groundout ended the scoring in the inning.

After the Blackhawks tied it up in the 2nd, the Tigers would score two more in the third as the middle infield combination of senior Jacob Shapiro and junior Mason Schaller singled to start off the inning.  Both would be driven in by Shike and Shearer.

Daniel Stevenson singled in the fourth and would eventually score after a sacrifice bunt, error, and another sacifice fly.  That took the Tigers to the 6th leading 6-2, before Sheridan went on a tear to tie the game.  That led to the 7th inning and Shearer's stepping up and delivering the GW hit.

Jacob Shike started and pitched a complete game for the Tigers.  He allowed 6 hits and of the 6 runs only 1 was earned, he struck out 2 and walked 1 and hit one.  Shearer led the way offensively for the Tigers, going 3-4 with his GW 2B, 2 SB's, and 3 RBI.  Schaller added a pair of hits and scored 2 runs.  Shapiro, Butner, Stevenson, and junior DH Aaron Cline each added a hit each.

Westfield 17 Heritage Christian 7

Westfield pounded out 11 hits and scored 17 runs including a 13 run second. Offensivley, the Shamrocks were lead by Stelts 3-4 4RBI afternoon. Other key contributors for the Shamrocks were Saldutti 2-3 with 2 RBIS and also pitched the final 3 innings striking out 2. Heritage Christian was paced by Walker?s 3-3 day and Robbins 2-2 with 2 RBIs.

Taylor 10 Frankton 6

The Titans jumped out in front with four runs in the top of the first inning with Brandon Cooprider's two run double with 2 outs.  Allen Stout got a base hit to drive in Cooprider and Shane Arnold hit a high fly ball to center field which was dropped.  Stout scored the fourth run of the inning on that error.  With 2 outs, Spencer McQueary hit a double and advanced to third on a pass ball. Tyler Simmons walked and had a delayed stolen base.

Frankton scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 5 to 4 after two innings.

Taylor scored three runs in the fourth inning  with Cooprider?s single scoring two runs.

For Taylor, McQueary was 2 - 4 with a double,  Cooprider was 2 - 4 with a double and 4 RBI,

and Tyler Simmons added a 2 RBI double . Calib Winninger got the win on the hill for Taylor by pitching 4 innings.  He gave up 5 runs, but only 1 was earned.   He allowed 5 hits, 3 walks, and struck out 6.   Cameron Clark earned the save by going 3 innings and only allowing 1 run.  Clark gave up 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5.

Fishers 5 Glenbard West (IL) 2

Fishers Varsity Baseball Team (1-0/0-0) defeated Glenbard West (from Chicago, IL) 5-2 to open up the 2011 season.  The game was played at Wabash College in Crawfordsville.

Ant Roach started the game and picked up a no-decision.  In 4+ innings, Roach allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits while striking out 3.  The Tigers bullpen gave a solid effort.  Blake Baumgartner came on in the 5^th inning to stop a rally.  Drew Clark pitched a spotless 6^th inning to pick up his 1^st win of the season, while J.P. Pena retired the Hilltoppers in order in the 7^th for his 1^st save.

Offensively, the Tigers had at least one base runner every inning, but struggled to string together a rally until they scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 6^th to take the lead for good.  Roach delivered the big blow with a bases loaded 2-run single to take the lead.  Matt Woolwine contributed a triple, while Pena, Clark, and Jon Cordell all had singles.
