Class 4A Regional Play-in Games
Barrington Regional
Junior outfielder Sean Eder hit a walk-off homer to lead Lake Zurich (16-16) past Barrington 9-8 and advance to the regional semifinals against No. 25 Mundelein (26-6) on Wednesday at 4:30. Lake Zurich fell behind early, but was able to turn it around quickly with the long ball. Lake Zurich hit four home runs in the game. Mark Dorfman hit one, and sophomore left-handed hitting catcher Anthony Drago came off the bench to hit a taper-shot blast. And then there was Eder, who went deep twice, the second ending the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Parker Asmann picked up the win for Lake Zurich with a great pitching performance after relieving Eddie Szarkowicz in the fifth. The Evansville-bound Asmann threw a fastball at 82-84 mph and a displayed a sharp breaking ball, which kept the Barrington hitters off balance.
Senior right-hander Greg Gerrard started for Barrington and threw well early with a fastball at 82-84 mph. The Lake Zurich hitters were able to get to Gerrard the third time threw the line up when he left the ball up, homering three times. Max Redpath relieved Gerrard in the sixth and took the loss. Senior outfielder John O?Connell and junior infielder Aaron Foley each added a few RBI and a couple doubles to lead the Barrington offense.

Benet Academy Regional
Benet (15-18) crushed Joliet Central 15-4 in five innings. Redwing senior CF R.J. Gatto hit a grand slam and drove home five runs for Benet. The Redwings will host Hinsdale South (14-13) in a regional semifinal on Thursday at 4:30. The PBR?s Drake Skleba will be in Lisle for all of the action.
Hinsdale Central Regional
The hosts, Hinsdale Central (13-19), rallied from an 11-2 deficit after five innings to defeat Plainfield East 13-11 at Plainfield East on Monday. The Red Devils exploded for seven runs in the sixth and tacked on four more in the seventh to storm past the stunned Bengals.
Red Devil senior Jacques Camalick hit a pair of solo shots and had three hits for HC. Senior SS Matt Anderson had three hits, including a monster grand slam and drove home five as the Red Devils rolled into the regional semis. Sophomore RHP Adam Dressler fired three scoreless innings in relief and fanned four to pick up the win. The Red Devils will host the defending Class 4A champion Naperville Central (20-12) on Wednesday at 3. The PBR?s Drake Skleba will be at 55th and Grant for all of the action.
Homewood Flossmoor Regional
Brother Rice (13-14) won 15-1 in five innings over Thornton. The Crusaders will meet regional host Homewood-Flossmoor at 7 on Wednesday night.
St. Laurence Regional
Stagg (13-18) bombed Eisenhower 14-5 behind red-hot Charger Brandon Clark. Clark lit up Cardinal pitchers for five hits, including a pair of bombs and plated three Charger runs. Clark also scored four times. Stagg will meet No. 3-ranked St. Laurence (26-6) on Wednesday at 4:30
Regular Season
No. 10 O?Fallon (29-5) ended No. 5 Sacred Heart-Griffin?s 27-game win streak Monday with a 3-0 victory. Robby Bohnenstiehl was back in the lineup and immediately contributed a two-run base hit. Matt Meadows followed with a solo homer in the second. That was all the Panthers needed as the mound combination of Hopkins, Wilson and Summerlin shut down SHG and earned the O'Fallon squad a 3-0 victory.
No. 2 Lyons Township (30-4) fell to Downers Grove South 5-4.
No. 7 Mt. Carmel (27-7) was ambushed at historic Ed Flink Field in Lockport on Monday. Lockport (23-12) routed the Caravan 13-2 in five innings behind St. Joseph College-bound Porter second baseman Mat Skrzypiec. Skryzpiec went deep for the Porters with two men on, among his two hits. Porter senior John Kosmowski hammered a double and a two-run bomb and red
hot Porter C Brenden Dunleavy had two more hits and an RBI. The Porters open up Class 4A
Lockport begins Regional play with Plainfield Central (11-20) on Thursday at 4:30. Plainfield Central defeated Lincoln-Way Central 9-4 on Monday. (See Drake Skleba?s story).
No. 13 Nazareth (29-5) blanked Libertyville 7-0 behind a combined two-hit shutout from RHP Pat Kelly (5-2) and Miami of Ohio-bound RHP Ryan Powers. Powers and Ryan both had three hits and hammered solo shots for the Roadrunners.
No. 20 Normal West (28-7) routed Edwardsville 16-3 in five innings on Monday. IWU-bound senior RHP Adam Seifert (7-0) picked up the win on the mound for the Wildcats. Wildcat junior 3B Wes Sery doubled three times and drove home three West runs. The three doubles give Sery 20 on the season, which sets a Normal West single-season record for doubles. Wildcat Eric Sipes chipped in with three hits and four RBI as the ?Cats unloaded on Edwardsville (24-9).
Crystal Lake South (19-12) scored five runs in the top of the first and cruised past Machesney Park Harlem 10-6. Gator senior SS Chris Hauser went deep twice and drove in three gator runs. Junior C Dom Winiecki doubled and homered for CLS and drove in a pair for the Gators. Gator junior pitcher Brandon Seiser improved to 4-1 with the win on the mound. The gators will open up Class 4A McHenry Regional action with Cary-Grove (23-9) at 4 on Thursday.
No. 22 Lemont (22-8) fell to Joliet West 11-5 on Monday.
Burlington Central (23-7) continued to play football games in the spring. The Rockets outscored Neuqua Valley 17-11 on junior TB Ray Hunnicutt?s 77-yard touchdown scamper with under a minute to go?I?ve been having problems like this all spring? Actually Rocket senior Sam Klein hit two home runs to lead the Rockets past the Wildcats on Monday. Senior RHP Joey Lange (7-1) picked up the win in relief for BC. Actually, Hunnicutt this fall did rush for 1,300 yards for the Rocket football team. No joke.
