John A. Logan JC nets two All-State picks
August 20, 2010
John A. Logan JC scored a major recruiting coup when it landed two Prep Baseball Report All-State prospects in the same day when Harrisburg 3B/OF Keelin Rasch and Teutopolis LHP Derek Thompson gave their commitments on Thursday.
Thompson, a 6-foot-3, 170-pound left-hander who’s the No. 7-ranked prospect in the state, helped lead Teutopolis to a surprising Class 2A state championship over Harrisburg in the spring. Thompson earned PBR second-team All-State honors after he went 9-1 with a 0.53 ERA and 101 strikeouts to 10 walks in 66 innings. He put the final touches on his incredible junior campaign with a six-hit complete-game masterpiece to beat Harrisburg in the championship game.
Rasch, who’s the No. 14-ranked prospect in the Class of 2011, also earned PBR second-team All-State honors. As a junior, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound Rasch batted .471 with a school-record 67 hits, 10 doubles, 9 home runs, 51 RBI and 48 runs scored. Rasch is also arguably the best defensive third baseman in the state, and he was clocked at 93 mph from the outfield at a PBR event.
In other news, Heartland CC landed a commitment from Mike Medwed, a 6-foot, 180-pound LHP from Lemont HS.
