From the Hip: 20 Must See AZ Underclassmen

With all the winter advancements proudly set to be displayed, and in anticipation for the spring season, the Prep Baseball Preseason All-State events provide the perfect opportunity to get on the radar of college coaches prior to the live recruiting period. Arizona’s PSAS Underclass was a revelation of young talent. Many unknown, talented players headed out to the gorgeous confines of Casteel High School to perform in a two-day event that left plenty to get excited about for the future of baseball in the Grand Canyon State.
Below, a look at 20 uncommitted players that made an impact:

Erick Jaylen Jimenez OF / RHP / Sandra Day O'Connor, AZ / 2027Entering the event as the #1 player in Arizona’s ‘27 class (26th nationally), Jimenez only reaffirmed his status as a must-follow. At 6-foot-5, 185-pounds, his impressive frame still holds considerable projection with frontline potential. An intriguing left-handed hitter with some pop, his work on the mound stood out most, as the young right-hander confidently pounded the zone at 85-87 (2500) after ripping off a tight slider to start the day. That slider showed to be his confidence pitch, thrown tightly with more lateral shape at 70-72 (2400+). Dropped in or buried, the aptitude for spin is innate and should allow for quick advancements with wipeout upside. Amplifying his starter potential was a quality faded changeup at 80-81. The polish of the delivery and the smoothness of the movement pattern (with easy repetition) shines brightly on what may come, especially given the fact that there will be even greater lower-half use as he gets stronger.
