Final Class of 2010 player rankings

For the last four years we’ve watched the Class of 2010 grow and develop from scrawny, often-awkward eighth-graders to 17- and 18-year-old young men. It’s been a pleasure following the arc of these players’ maturation. On a whole, the Class of 2010 was another fine representation for the state of Illinois, proving once again that our state is one of the most fertile baseball landscapes in the country, regardless of the weather constraints.

We rank the final top 150 prospects in the state – a difficult process considering all the talented players in Illinois. Minooka RHP Mike Foltynewicz, who was selected No. 19 overall in the MLB Draft, finished as the No. 1-prospect in the state, followed by Granite City catcher Jake DePew, Brother Rice 3B/RHP Kevin Koziol, St. Rita OF Mark Payton, Harrisburg SS/RHP Reid Roper, Stevenson SS/RHP Kyle Ruchim, Downers Grove North INF Eric Jagielo, Naperville Central LHP/1B Shane Conlon, Lisle RHP/3B Jon Surber and Mt. Zion RHP Ryan Hartman.

The spring season saw some players catapult up the rankings. Perhaps the biggest riser in the Class of 2010 was Teutopolis RHP Luke Bushur, an Eastern Illinois recruit who helped lead the Wooden Shoes to the Class 2A state championship. Other significant risers in the class include: Leyden RHP Dan Savas, Ruchim, Harrisburg OF Kollin Dowdy, Rockford Boylan OF/SS Michael Morman, Deerfield OF Josh Nevers, Glenwood 3B Jake Ingold, Wheaton North SS Mike Small, Naperville Central OF Bobby Czarnowski, and Edwardsville OF Tyler Mikrut to name a few.

Good luck at the next level, Class of 2010. It’s been fun.
