June 25, 2011
Wednesday we brought the Top 10 performers from the SWMO Prospect ID at Price Cutter Park in Ozark, MO. Today we bring you the best of the rest of the participants from this event, performances that should be recognized.
Cody Hall, Purdy HS, Class of 2012: The athletic 5-foot-11, 190-pound Hall moved fluidly in the outfield and displayed his quickness running a 7.15 60. He also demonstrated a solid, accurate arm, at 73 mph. At the plate, Hall made consistent contact with a level swing and showed to be a pull hitter.
Landan O’Dell, LHP/OF, Kickapoo, Class of 2013: The 5-foot-9, 155-pound lefty O’Dell was solid on the mound, touching 75 with good extension through his target line. O’Dell’s best pitch was changeup with good depth that he commanded to the bottom of the zone. As he grows and gets stronger, he should see a jump in velocity on all pitches. At the plate, the left handed hitter has a smooth swing, spraying the ball gap-to-gap.
Caleb Hall, C/1B, Kickapoo, Class of 2012: In the field, the athletic 6-foot, 175-pound Hall demonstrated sure handed fielding at first base, with fluid footwork and a quick exchange. At the plate, Hall is quiet and balanced in the batters box with quick hands. He uses a gap-to-gap approach spraying line drives to both power alleys.
Brodie Kern, 1B/C, Kickapoo, Class of 2012: The strong bodied 5-foot-11, 192-pound Kern showed good feet around the bag with soft hands and good instincts to the ball. At the plate, Kern has a smooth load with pull power. New to catching, Kern showed potential behind the plate with athletic actions and a 2.38 pop time. With further work behind the plate, Kern could develop into a top notch catcher.
Tyler Martin, MIF, Clever HS, Class of 2013: The undersized 5-foot-9, 165-pound Martin showed surprising line drive power with his short, level swing. In the field, Martin was sure handed and showed good instincts to the ball
Austin Schweiss, OF, Nixa HS, Class of 2013: Schweiss is a long, athletically built 6-foot, 155-pound prospect with arm strength and considerable upside. In the outfield he moves fluidly and had good carry on his 78-mph throws. Offensively, he takes an aggressive approach and uphill swing to show some pull power potential. Schweiss ran a 7.37 60.
Jordan Burnett, INF, Clever HS, Class of 2012: The 5-foot-8, 160-pound Burnett demonstrated sound fielding mechanics, along with solid hands and lateral movements. At the plate, Burnett showed a short, uphill swing and the ball consistently found his barrel.
Reese Stevenson, RHP/MIF, Purdy HS, Class of 2012: Stevenson featured a sweeping curveball with depth, along with a 78-81 mph fastball and good command of the strike zone. At the plate, the left handed hitter demonstrated sound hitting mechanics, quick hands and a line drive-producing swing hitting the ball to all fields. Defensively, Stevenson showed good footwork, a clean exchange, and accurate arm (77 mph) across the diamond.
Ryan Pearman, OF, Reed Springs, Reed Springs HS, Class of 2012: The athletic 5-foot-11, 185-pound Pearman showed athleticism to the ball in the outfield. At the plate, Pearman has an aggressive approach. With some mechanical work to his swing, he has the potential to be a power hitter.
Colton Webber, LHP/OF, Seneca HS, Class of 2013: On the mound, the lanky 6-foot, 175 pound Webber used a ¾ arm slot to show a 76-78 mph fastball that was consistently thrown for strikes, as well as a sweeping breaking ball. Webber demonstrated fastball arm speed on all pitches. Offensively, the left handed hitting Webber has a hitch in his swing, and still manages to stay level and consistently produce line drives, primarily to the right side.
Christopher Regan, LHP/OF, Dixon HS, Class of 2012: On the mound, Regan showcased the ability to throw three pitches for strikes. His fastball has some late arm side run, to go along with a 10-to-4 breaking ball. In the outfield, he moves athletically with a solid arm. At the plate, the left handed hitting Regan took a good path to the ball to produce consistent line drives. Regan ran a 7.25 in the 60.
Cody Lumpkin, C/OF, Crane HS, Class of 2012: At 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, Lumpkin is a strong-bodied catcher with considerable upside. He showed an accurate throwing arm, with a top pop time of 2.28. At the plate, he has power potential, when he uses his lower half and keeps his hands from dropping.
Justin Stockam, RHP, Kickapoo HS, Class of 2012: The 6-foot-1 Stockam has a projectable frame, clean mechanics, and a loose arm. He touched 76 on the mound with more in the tank. Stockam also displayed good change-up and an 11-to-5 breaking ball.
Ranger Curtis, 1B, Clever HS, Class of 2013: Curtis is a physically strong 5-foot-10, 235-pound first baseman. Curtis possesses strong legs and significant power potential at the plate.
Aaron Patton, LHP, Monett HS, Class of 2013: The 6-foot-5, 165-pound Patton is a long and wiry left handed pitcher with a loose arm and a high ¾ delivery. His heavy fastball sat 73-77 with late movement. Patton displayed near fastball arm speed on his breaking ball and changeup, both of which were consistently thrown for strikes. With his very projectable frame, look for Patton to see an increase in velocity as he gets stronger
Landon Anderson, 1B/3B, Dixon HS, Class of 2012: Anderson demonstrated sure hands in the field, while showing some mobility at 1B. At the plate, the physically strong 6-foot-2, 220-pound Anderson’s bat takes a slightly uphill path to the ball, with pull power potential. With a bit more drive off his back side, Anderson could be a consistent power hitter.
