Arcadia, IN?Monday?s season opener was a great start to what should be an exciting year for high school baseball here in Indiana.  With the weather still on the chilly side and opening game jitters, both teams showed some rust throughout the game.  Several errors lead to runs for both teams early on, however as the game went along players started making plays both on the offensive and defensive ends.

Andrew Knapp (Hamilton Heights) and Matt Lampe (Carmel) both got the start for their respective teams.  Knapp was consistently 77-79 with his fastball, touching 80 a couple of times while Lampe?s fastball was 81-83.  Both pitchers threw productive innings, but neither factored in the decision.

Carmel scored early on a Jack Martin (2013) RBI double to right center, giving the Greyhounds an early 1-0 lead.  Hamilton Heights quickly answered with a run of their own on Andrew Knapp?s RBI double, tying the game at 1-1. 

In the 6^th both teams again traded runs to make it a 4-4 game.  Spence Dull lead Hamilton Heights with 2 RBI?s.  Carmel?s Jack Martin had two hits, along with Cameron Cruz.  Cruz also had 2 RBI?s.

Clayton Marrs, committed to St. Joseph?s, came in to pitch for Carmel in the 6^th inning with 2 outs and runners on.  He threw 1 pitch, an 84 mph fastball, and got a line-out to get out of the jam.  In the top of the 7^th, with the game still tied at 4 apiece, the Greyhounds threatened with a runner on, but were unable to score.  Marrs gave up back to back singles in the bottom half of the inning, but struck out two Husky hitters, moving the game into extra innings. 

In the 8^th, Carmel?s Jake Either walked, and then moved to third on an overthrow from an attempted pickoff throw.  Alex Greene then singled, scoring Either for the go ahead run.  Marrs again took the mound in the bottom of the 8^th, and struck out the final two batters, stranding a runner on third giving the Greyhounds a 5-4 win.
