AAG Spotlight: Angel Cervantes (CA, 2025)

 Prep Baseball is taking the talent to South Beach. 

After the successful launch of the inaugural Prep Baseball All-American Game in 2023, the second annual game is coming to Miami on Sept. 14 – and it promises to be bigger and better. One thing won’t change: The All-American Game will still feature the best high school baseball talent in the nation, with the top high school seniors taking on the best junior prospects to see which class reigns supreme.

The classes of 2025 and 2026 will face off on Saturday, Sept. 14 at loanDepot Park, home of the Miami Marlins. Both teams will participate in a workout day at the ballpark on Friday, Sept. 13, as part of a full weekend of activities.

In the lead-up to the first pitch in Miami, we'll be spotlighting each of the players joining us at the 2024 Prep Baseball All-American Game. Next up, a returnee to the AAG: SS/RHP Billy Carlson (Corona, 2025; Vanderbilt commit).

Positional Profile: RHP/1B Athletic RHP with a starters profile and high ceiling potential
Body: 6-3, 193-pounds. Athletic frame with wiry present strength to it
Delivery: Smooth delivery with advanced body control. Front side stays online down the mound with minimal effort. Lower half syncs well with arm to generate arm speed while staying over his front leg through the delivery. Repeats delivery operation consistently.
Arm Action: RH. Longer arm path down from the glove into a smooth fast arm stroke with looseness throughout the delivery. Works from a high 3/4 slot that he repeats consistently. Maintains his arm speed on all pitches with ability to control the strike zone.
FB: T94, 92-93 mph. Firm FB which shows run through the zone and heavy life that generates soft contact multiple times. T2452, 2353 average rpm.
CB: 78-81 mph. Power breaking ball with swing/miss action that features downward and horizontal action and near elite spin rates. T2891, 2866 average rpm.
CH: 84-84 mph. Firmer CHG with more arm side run than depth. T2195, 2135 average rpm.

Positional Profile: RHP/3B Cervantes is a mainstage power arm, but his hitting ability and overall athleticism can't be ignored for its impact in HS baseball.
Body: 6-2, 190-pounds. Strong and athletic build. Coordinated and efficient movements.
Hit: RHH. Wide stance, bat over the shoulder. Weight slightly on the back foot. Hands drop down in the load. Consistent line drives. 72.1 mph bat speed with 8 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 94 max exit velocity, averaged 84.1 mph. 296' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-82 mph. Short arm action, accurate arm.
Defense: Coordinated and confident at 1B.

Prep Baseball All-American Game: An athletic mover with whippy arm speed, Cervantes uses a quick arm action in a high, three-quarters arm slot. Sturdy lead leg block with advanced ability to repeat. Fastball will jump out of the hand at 91-93 with some carry and arm-side run. Ability to land to both sides of the plate. Sweeper at 79-81 shows present command to land for strikes early in counts and whiffs late. Changeup is as advanced as you’ll find in the class. At 77-79 with excellent feel and averaging nearly 18 inches of arm-side fade, The UCLA commit has the confidence to throw the pitch in any situation. It’s a real feel for three pitches that continue to get better.
