Michael Yuille threw six shutout innings, striking out eight and went 2-for-3 at the plate as the Northwest Jaguars defeated Howard HS 8-0.
After both teams felt each other out in the first, Northwest struck early in the game, taking advantage of seven Howard walks to score four runs between the second and third innings. Northwest added one run in the second after Jalen Magbie-Hunter beat out a potential double play ball with the bases loaded, allowing the run to score. Northwest would load the bases in the third with no out and score three runs all off of wild pitches to take a 4-0 lead.
Northwest added two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings, with Yuille hitting a double to right center field, scoring Ryan Kennington from first base. Yuilles courtesy runner would eventually score after a walk to extend the lead to 6-0 after five. A dropped fly ball in left field with two outs led to two more runs fro Northwest in the sixth to get to their 8-0 margin.
Yuille pitched extremely well in the game, keeping the Howard offense at bay. His only real threat came In the third inning, where Howard loaded the bases off of two singles and a walk with one out. The next hitter sent a fly ball to right field that got the second out, and Kennington threw a perfect strike to the plate to get the tagging runner from third out before scoring to end the inning.
Griffin Bubb would strike out two hitters in the final frame to close out the victory and begin the celebration.
Yuille led Northwest going 2-for-3 at the plate. Josh Netterville, Mac Adelman, and Jon Hartig had the Jaguars other hits.
Cam Robinson led Howard going 2-for-3.
The Championship was the second in the history of Northwest HS, with their first coming in 2012.
