On October 6th we took in the Youth Service League workout at American Legion Fields in Brooklyn. Here are some of the players that stood out:

Christopher Moreno 2B / RHP / Telecommunications , NY / 2020 Did a little bit of everything; steady glove with MIF actions and enough arm for the left side. Easy effort stroke with some occasional pop to the pull side. Showed command on the mound at 80-82 with a long arm swing. Has feel for secondary offerings showing a a big 12-6 CB. Solid, all-around skill set.

 

Kai Higginson 1B / RHP / Tel-Com, NY / 2021 Big time frame at 6-foot-5 220 pounds. Swing came across a bit stiff but still generates some pop. Even, balanced setup at the plate and repeats actions. Will need some fine tuning around the bag but you can't teach that kind of a target. Works downhill from a high 3/4 slot. Peaked at 79 MPH but plenty more in the tank. CB had 12-6 action and checked in at 69-71 MPH.

 

Willie Veras SS / RHP / A Philip Randolph Campus, NY / 2020 Compact, muscular frame at 5-foot-9 175 pounds. Strong lower half that generates some pop from a spread, even stance. Low to the ground, gliding actions up the middle. May profile better at 2B but with improved arm could handle 3B.

 

Emmanuel Perez 3B / OF / Richmond Hill, NY / 2020 Lean 5-foot-10 155 pound frame; balanced, spread setup at the plate with repeatable timing mechanisms. Covers the plate well. Worked out at 3B with a short, catcher's like arm action. Ran a 7.22 60, could profile at 2B or in the OF.

 

Christopher Lozano OF / Health and Science, NY / 2020 Lozano ran a blazing 6.59 60. Showed more polish at the plate from the right side then the left. Flashes some whip action to his swing from a balanced approach. Throws come out with life but will need to work on maintaining his carry, developing arm strength with throws peaking at 80 MPH.

 

 

Benjamin Luciano OF / 1B / Bishop Loughlin, NY / 2021 Physical RHH with a thick lower half. Throws held moderate carry from the outfield. Hit from a balanced, spread stance with minimal pre-pitch actions.
