Wisconsin Fairs Well in 2017 Overall Rankings

The overall 2017 rankings were updated last week. After the recent PBR Future Games, which had a big impact on the stock of several prospects around our coverage area, the rankings saw a big shakeup across our coverage area. Our PBR coverage area continues to expand, now up to 27 states, our 2017 rankings now include New Jersey, all of the New England states and Ontario. It continually gets harder for states to see their prospects make the cut, but Wisconsin is holding its own and got its top 12 prospects in the Top 300.

LHP Augie Mihlbauer (Mukwonago, 2017) held firm since the last update four months ago. Mihlbauer continued to build on his outing in late March (Madison Preseason ID) which put him on the national recruiting landscape after sitting 87-89 mph from a ¾ slot. Mihlbauer later made his verbal commitment to TCU in May and has held strong to the No. 1 spot in Wisconsin ever since.

Seven Wisconsin prospects are new to the overall rankings this time around and their performance at the PBR Future Games had a big impact on that. RHP Nate Burns (West Bend West) was the biggest winner and the highest new addition for Wisconsin in the overall rankings. Burns made the top 200, and has become a high interest for some of college baseball’s powerhouse programs around the country.

Along with Burns, LHP Troy Hickey (Wilmot Union), SS Jack Blomgren (Janesville Craig), Zach Clayton (Oconomowoc), 1B Griffin Doersching (Greendale), LHP Ryan Bader (Mukwonago) and LHP Trevor Olson (Chippewa Falls) all made the overall ranks for the first time.
