 The Winter Trials were held on Sunday December 4th at Athletic Performance Inc. 20 players performed infront of the PBR scouting staff and area colleges. Today we give you the position player analysis.

Anthony Burke 1B Lake Braddock 2017
Burke is 6-2 with a strong lower half, hits from the right side from an open stance. Short leg kick stride lands open, smooth load back, wraps a bit. Good hips and decent balance throughout swing. Uphill path with extension through the ball, pull approach with some juice, exit velocity of 88. At first base, footwork is fine with average hands. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity of 73.

Noah Cerrud-Osmer 1B Walter Johnson 2019
Cerrud-Osmer is 6-1 with an athletic frame, hits from an athletic open stance. Strides on line, smooth back load, decent hips with above average balance during swing. Short to the ball with extension through it. Level, line drive swing, good approach working gap-to-gap, exit velocity of 91. At short, clean footwork and above average hands, clean quick exchange. Low three-quarters arm slot with short arm action, position velocity of 67. 60 time was 7.25.

Rocky Grimes C St. Mary's Ryken 2019
Grimes is 5-9 with an athletic frame, hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance. Minimal stride, short load back, decent lower half and above average balance throughout swing. Longer path with extension through ball, level line drive swing gets uphill sometimes. Pull approach with an exit velocity of 78. At short, above average footwork and hands. Sound exchange, high three-quarters arm action with a short arm action, position velocity of 73. Behind the plate, clean exchange, throwing from a high three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action and accuracy, catcher velocity of 68, pop times were 2.20-2.36.

Ethan McCormick SS Archbishop Spalding 2020
Hits from right side from an open athletic stance, strides on line and smooth load back, good rhythm. Explosive hips and above average balance throughout swing. Short to ball with extension through it, line drive swing that worked gap to gap, exit velocity was 79. At short, good quick footwork and soft hands, plays through ball well with a quick clean exchange. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a position velocity of 74. 60 time was 7.27.

Sam Mermelstein OF Whitman 2020
Mermelstein is 5-8 with an athletic frame. Hits from the right side from an open athletic stance, short leg kick stride and smooth load back. Good hips and balance throughout swing, short to the ball working uphill through it with extension. Pull approach with an exit velocity of 83. At short, average hands with a clean exchange. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot, position velocity of 70. Ran a 6.98 60.

Joey Merrill SS Montgomery Blair 2018
Merrill is 6-0 with an athletic frame and a strong lower half. At the plate, hits from the right side from an open, upright stance. Strides closed with no load, decent hips and balance. Short, level swing, line drive hitter with a slight pull tendency, exit velocity of 71. At shortstop, clean footwork and a wide base, soft hands. Clean exchange, working through ball. Throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, position velocity of 72.

Kamau Moody OF Bishop McNamara 2018
Moody is 5-10 with a lanky frame, hits from the right side from an open athletic stance. Short stride on line, smooth load back with slight wrap. Decent balance throughout swing, longer path to the ball, showed good approach using the whole field. Line drive swing with an exit velocity of 75. In the outfield, quick clean footwork, rounds ball well and plays through it with soft hands. Clean exchange and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot, position velocity of 70. Ran a 7.29 60.

Derek Ohringer SS Roosevelt 2019
Ohringer is 5-10 with a lanky frame, he hits from the right side from a balanced open stance. Good rhythm, short stride on line and smooth load back, decent hips and balance throughout swing. Short line drive swing and used the middle of the field, exit velocity of 74. At short, above average footwork and hands, clean transfer and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a loose arm action, shortstop velocity of 73. Behind the plate, firm receiver, athletic exchange. Throws from high three-quarters slot with short arm action, catcher velocity of 69 and pop times 2.09-2.21.

Justin Pelletreau C Archbishop Spalding 2018
Pelletreau is 6-3 with a lankier athletic frame, hits from the right side from an open stance. Strides on line, smooth load back with good rhythm. Explosive hips and good balance throughout swing. Short to the ball, level swing with extension through, line drive hitter with good approach, working gap to gap, exit velocity was 82. In the infield, clean footwork and average hands. Gains ground on a clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 73. Behind the plate, quick clean release, short arm action from a high three-quarters arm slot, catcher velocity was 73 and pop times were 2.02-2.21, showed some accuracy on his throws.

Miles Peterson C TBD 2021
Peterson is 5-8 with a lanky frame, hits from the right side from an open stance with high hands. Smooth load back and strides back on line, hips are quick with partial rotation, decent balance throughout swing. Short to ball with a level line drive swing, good approach using whole field, exit velocity of 75. Athletic routes in outfield with average hands, gains ground on exchange and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose arm action. Outfield velocity of 64. Behind the plate, clean exchange, short arm action from low three-quarters slot, catcher velocity of 61 and pop times of 2.28-2.37.

Zach Powers C Archbishop Spalding 2019
Powers is 6-1 with a lanky frame, good hips and shows some balance throughout swing, longer level path to the ball, line drive swing working the middle of the field, exit velocity of 77. In the infield, clean footwork, fields with a wide base, and soft hands. Clean exchange, throws from a lower three-quarters slot, infield velocity was 73. In the outfield, gets behind ball and plays through it, outfield velocity was 81. Behind the plate, decent hands and a clean exchange. Throws from a low three-quarters slot, catcher velocity was 71 and pop times were 2.19-2.38.

Travis Sankovich SS Laurel Highlands 2018
Sankovich is 5-11 with an athletic frame, hits from the left side from an athletic stance. Leg kick stride and loads back with decent rhythm. Explosive hips and average balance throughout swing. Works uphill and extends through the ball, pull approach with some power potential, exit velocity was 85. In the infield, quick clean footwork and soft hands, clean exchange while playing through ball. Throws from a low three-quarters slot with a short, loose, quick arm action, position velocity was 84. Ran a 7.22 60.

Matthew Steinberg C River Hill 2019
Steinberg is 5-10 with an athletic frame and a strong lower half. Hits from the right side from an upright balanced stance. Short stride with a bit of a dive, loads back. Hips cut off and balance is average. Short to ball, working uphill with a line drive swing, mostly gap to gap with some pull tendencies, exit velocity was 71. In the infield, gets behind ball and has average hands, clean exchange. Throws from low three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity of 67. Behind the plate, throws from low three-quarters arm slot with a position velocity of 62, pop times were 2.39-2.45.

Xander Waddell SS Old Mill 2019
Waddell is 5-9 with a lankier frame that is a switch hitter from the right side. Open upright stance. Leg kick stride and good hips and balance. Short to ball, level line drive swing that was inside out. From the left side, open stance with a big leg kick stride, explosive hips and decent balance. Longer swing, working uphill through the ball with a pull approach. In the infield, smooth clean footwork and soft hands. Good clean exchange, throws from sidearm with a short, loose arm action, infield velocity was 72.
