The Winter Trials were held on Sunday December 4th at Athletic Performance Inc. 20 players performed in front of the PBR scouting staff and area colleges. Today we give you the pitcher analysis.

Ethan McCormick RHP Archbishop Spalding 2020
McCormick is 6-0 with a lanky frame, has a drop and drive delivery and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot. Arm action is short and free, quick stroke with normal effort. Shoulders uphill and on line as strides to a square landing with athletic finish. Fastball has heavy run, sitting 76-80 and touching 81. Splitter was 69-71 with decent armspeed and fading action. Breaking ball has late break, 10/4 to glove side 11/5 arm side, running 69-71. Showed feel of all three pitches.

Sam Mermelstein OF Walt Whitman 2020
Mermelstein is 5-8 with an athletic frame, he throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery. Arm action is long, generates velocity with normal effort. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands slightly open with an athletic finish. Fastball was 72-74 with some late run. Curveball was 64-65 with gradual 11/5 break. Change-up was 65-67 with sink.

Joey Merrill SS/RHP Montgomery Blair 2018
Merrill is 6-0 with an athletic frame and a strong lower half. Has a drop and drive delivery and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a long, free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders are level and closed as he strides to a square landing with a fall off and some recoil in his finish. Fastball was 72-74 with heavy run. Slider was 64-65 with gradual 10/4 break. Change-up had good armspeed and was 65-67 with late sink to it.

John Narvaiz RHP Bethesda-Chevy Chase 2018
Narvaiz is 6-1 with an athletic frame, throws from a lower three-quarters slot with a drop and drive delivery. Long, free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders on line and uphill, landing is slightly closed with a slight fall off finish. Fastball was 76-78, touching 79, with some late run. Change-up was 63-64 with fade. Big 10/4 curveball was 71-73. Had decent feel of the strike zone.

Zach Powers RHP Archbishop Spalding 2019
Powers is 6-1 with a lanky frame, he has a smooth delivery and throws from a low three-quarters arm slot. Shorter arm action with minimal effort, shoulders are level and on line and he strides to a square landing with a slight fall off finish. Fastball sat 74-77 with late run to it. Change-up was 64-65 with decent arm action and heavy fade. Curveball was 12/6 with decent arm action and was 63-65. He showed good feel of the strikezone with all three pitches.

Jordan Shako RHP Middletown 2020
Shako is 5-10 with a lanky frame, he has a drop and drive delivery and throws from a three-quarters arm slot. Long, free arm action with normal effort. Shoulders are closed and level, square landing and athletic finish. Fastball has sink, running 62-64, touching 65. Curveball has gradual 12/6 break, running 45-49. Change-up had fade and was 55-56.

Xander Waddell SS/RHP Old Mill 2019
Waddell is 5-9 with a lankier frame, drop and drive delivery throwing from a three-quarters arm slot. Short, quick arm action with some effort to the delivery. Shoulders uphill and closed, square landing with a fall off finish. Fastball was 77-79, touching 80 with some late run. Slider had late 11/5 downer break, running 64-68 with good armspeed.
