Williamson Jumps On Chance To Play At Gardner-Webb
Luke Williamson LHP / OF / Canal Winchester, OH / 2017DAYTON - Luke Williamson had no idea when he was removed in the third inning of a NJCAA World Series game back in late May that it would be his last appearance in a Sinclair uniform. The left-handed pitcher, who a week earlier had injured his foot in a dogpile after winning the regionals only to find out following his World Series outing that it was broken, has decided to forego his final year at Sinclair with a commitment to Division I Gardner-Webb. “They had three guys drafted and two were left-handed pitchers,” the Sinclair freshman explained about G-W. “These were two key guys they valued.” With the help of a teammate, Kyle Ruehlman, Gardner-Webb and Williamson hooked up. “My buddy at Sinclair was going there and he sent them a text with my name and another’s name,” the 6-1 187-pounder said. “They contacted me and they seemed interested. I talked to my parents and said if the offer is what we want fine, if not I wanted to stay at Sinclar one more year and get my degree.” The decision was soon made. “The offer turned out to be way, way more than I expected,” Williamson admitted. “I decided this was the best opportunity for me. I’ve wanted to go south since I was seven or eight so I jumped on it.” |
