Where Are They Now?: 2014 RHP Isaac Mattson
December 19, 2020
Ranked No. 89 in the Pennsylvania Class of 2014, Isaac Mattson was a very athletic righty that signed late with the University of Pittsburgh following a big senior year of high school baseball. At 6-foot-3, 180-pounds and a fastball that was sitting comfortably in the upper 80s, the projection for college success was evident.
Mattson went on to compile a 3.64 ERA in 94 innings that spanned three years in a Pitt uniform. Most impressive was his 104 strikeouts to just 19 walks. After adding 25 pounds to his frame and significant velocity to his fastball, Mattson had an all-star summer in the Cape Cod League in 2016.
A 19th round selection by the Los Angeles Angels in 2017, Maatson was recently added to the Baltimore Orioles 40 man roster. Over three seasons of minor league baseball Mattson has gone 14-7 with a 2.89 ERA, including going 6-3 with a 2.33 ERA in AAA during the 2019 season.
Mattson spent the 2020 summer at the Orioles alternate training sight during a pandemic shortened season.
