Western Ohio Winter Showcase
We would like to thank all who participated in PBR Ohio’s Western Ohio Winter Showcase. This was a great opportunity for 2015, '16, '17 and '18 prospects to be put on college radars. Many players impressed during their individual workouts at the showcase. Below we have the complete statistical results from the event as well as the top performers across various different categories.
In the coming weeks, we will be adding and updating profiles for each of the players in attendance, including complete analysis and video.

TOP PITCHER: Seth Lonsway, LHP, Celina, 2017

Alec Brown, 2B/MIF, Bowling Green, 2017
Scouting Report: 5-foot-8, 130-pound skinny, lanky frame. From the infield he projects as a second baseman. Show average range and clean exchange. Throws from a short, high-¾ slot with 67 mph arm strength. Right-handed hitter that starts open and gets to even. High hands with his swing that gets in and out of the zone. Registered top exit velocity of 77 mph and ran 4.94 home to first.
Blaine Brown, C/OF, Bowling Green, 2017
Scouting Report: 5-foot-9, 145-pound average build. From the outfield he needs to utilize a run through when fielding the baseball. Throws from a ¾ slot with 75 mph arm strength. From behind the plate he has good direction with his footwork. Throws from a high-¾ slot with pop times between 2.29-2.37 and 72 mph arm strength. Right-handed hitter that starts open and gets to even. Starts with his hands high with a flat path and top exit velocity of 72 mph and ran a 4.88 home to first.
Bryce Borton, OF/RHP, Defiance, 2017
Scouting Report: 5-foot-11, 150-pound athletic build. From the outfield he has quick transfer and opens up on his throws. Throws from a high-¾ slot with 82 mph arm strength. Right-handed hitter that starts open and uses a toe tap. Simple swing and ball tends to jump off his bat. Registered a top exit velocity of 76 mph but should get better with added strength. Also ran 4.43 home-to-first which was the fastest from a RHH.
Clayton Brown, OF/RHP, Bowling Green, 2017
Scouting Report: 5-foot-9, 140-pound projectable frame. From the outfield he needs to quicken up his crow hop and take less steps. Throws from a high-¾ slot with 81 mph arm strength from the outfield. Right-handed hitter that starts open and gets to even. Stands tall with good path and top exit velocity of 78 mph and ran a 4.65 home to first.
Cody Schwartz, OF/RHP, Columbia, 2017
Scouting Report: 6-foot-1, 165-pound athletic build. From the outfield he has a tendency to let the ball get into his body. Throws from a high-¾ slot with 74 mph arm strength. Right-handed hitter that starts slightly closed. Really utilizes the right side of the infield with good rhythm, a toe lift, and a short compact swing that pulls off a little. Registered a top exit velocity of 73 mph and ran 4.79 home-to-first. On the mound he has a simple delivery that he is able to repeat and really pounds the zone with all his pitches. Throws from a short, high-¾ slot with fastball sitting 70-73 mph. Breaking ball has a big 11/5 break at 55-56 mph.
Dylan Albright, RHP/OF, Indian Lake, 2017
Scouting Report: 6-foot-1, 155-pound athletic build. From the outfield he fields the ball in front of him and needs to utilize a run through ball. Throws from a high-¾ slot that opens up a little with 80 mph arm strength. Left-handed hitter that starts even and really likes to pull the ball. The barrel gets in and out of the zone with top exit velocity of 75 mph and ran a 4.59 home to first. On the mound the righty is able to repeat his delivery, collect at balance point, and on line at foot strike. Throw from a long, high-¾ slot with fastball sitting 75-78 mph. Breaking ball has a big 11/5 break at 56-57 mph and a changeup at 65-68 mph with good arm speed.
Jake Williams, C/2B, Brunswick, 2017
Scouting Report: 5-foot-10, 183-pound solid build. From behind the plate he showed good footwork and a quick exchange for his age. Throws from a short, high-¾ slot with pop times ranging between 2.11-2.14 with 73 mph arm strength. Left-handed hitter with a good set up and balanced. Uses a little load and has a flat bat path. Registered top exit velocity of 84 mph and ran 4.62 down the line.
Jonah Marsh, OF, Highland, 2017
Scouting Report: 5-foot-9, 170-pound athletic build. From the outfield he attacks the ball on his run through. Has a quick transfer and throws from a high-¾ slot with 81 mph arm strength. Right-handed hitter that starts open and then closed on his stride. Starts with his hands high and swings down on the ball and gets the barrel in and out of the zone. Registered a top exit velocity of 80 mph and ran 4.76 home to first.
Koree Hodgkinson, C/2B, Sandusky, 2017
Scouting Report: 5-foot-10, 175-pound athletic build. From behind the plate he has solid footwork and throws from a short, high-¾ slot with 67 mph arm strength and pop times ranging between 2.34-2.40. Right-handed hitter that start slightly closed with short, flat swing and at top exit velocity of 79 mph and ran a 5.07 home to first.
Mason Carr, OF/C, Van Wert, 2017
Scouting Report: 5-foot-8, 150-pound athletic build. From the outfield he attacks the ball and uses a solid run through. Throws from a high-¾ slot with 75 mph arm strength from the outfield. From behind the dish if he improves his footwork his pop times will get better. Recorded pop times between 2.29-2.33 with 69 mph arm strength. Right-handed hitter with no stride and able to keep his weight back. Has a short compact swing that gets in and out of the zone and a tendency to dip his back shoulder. Registered top exit velocity of 73 mph and ran a 4.75 down the line.
Michael Burton, 3B/RHP, Wapakoneta, 2017
Scouting Report: 6-foot-1, 165-pound projectable frame. From the infield he projects as a third base type. Shows soft hands and a clean exchange. Throws from a high-¾ slot with 74 mph arm strength across the diamond. Right-handed hitter that starts his front foot closed and uses a little lift to load. Has a slightly uphill swing with a high finish and top exit velocity of 74 mph and ran a 5.03 down the line. On the mound he has good tempo to his delivery and falls off a little down at foot strike. Throws from a high-¾ slot that is almost over top. Loose arm with his fastball sitting 74-75 mph with some down angle. Cuts himself off of his breaking ball that has two plane break at 59 mph. Showcases a changeup at 66-67 mph with good arm swing.
Nate Kaffenbarger, SS/OF, Indian Lake, 2017
Scouting Report:5-foot-10, 165-pound athletic build. From the infield he shows decent range and quick exchange. Throws from a lower-¾ slot with 75 mph across the diamond. Right-handed hitter that starts closed and uses a good load. Keeps his hands inside the baseball with top exit velocity of 75 mph and ran a 4.59 down the line.
Justin Smith, RHP/1B, Fairview, 2017
Scouting Report: 6-foot-5, 215-pound projectable frame. From first base he shows good footwork around the bag and a quick exchange. Throws from a high-¾ slot with 73 mph arm strength. Right-handed hitter that starts closed with a little toe tap and good rhythm. He has tendency to stop his swing with an exit velocity of 86 mph and ran a 4.90 down the line. I believe he projects at the next level on the mound. Has good direction and throws from a high-¾ slot with good down angle and a some sink on his fastball at 77-81 mph. Breaking ball has good late break at 69-70 mph and showcased a changeup with good arm speed at 68-73 mph with sink. One to keep eye on.
Kevin Finzer, 3B/RHP, St. Edward, 2017
Scouting Report: 6-foot-2, 200-pound projectable frame. From the infield he projects as a third base type. Shows good range with an alright exchange. Throws from a high-¾ slot with 67 mph arm strength. Right-handed hitter that starts open and gets to even. Starts his hands high with a simple swing and exit velocity of 85 mph and ran 4.97 home to first. On the mound the righty uses a slow tempo delivery with a strong lower-½. Throws from a high-¾ slot with fastball sitting 80-82 mph with good command to his arm side. Slows down on his breaking ball at 59 mph with 11/5 break. Gets underneath his changeup a little and slows down his arm at 64-65 mph.
Parker Riley, 3B/RHP, Lehman Catholic, 2017
Scouting Report: 5-foot-11, 195-pound solid, strong, build. From the infield he projects as a third baseman. He shows average footwork and fields the ball into his body. Throws from a high-¾ slot with 69 mph arm strength across the diamond. Right-handed hitter that starts even and uses a short, compact swing. Barrel gets in and out of the zone with some power to the opposite field. Registered top exit velocity of 80 mph and ran 4.97 down the line. On the mound the righty shows good direction and a strong lower-½. Throws from a short-¾ slot with fastball sitting 71-74 mph. Showed a breaking ball at 60-64 mph and used a changeup at 62-63 mph with good arm speed.
Sam Culler, LHP/OF, Bryan, 2017
Scouting Report: 6-foot-2, 155-pound projectable frame. From the outfield he has a tendency to open up on his throw. Throws from a high-¾ slot with 78 mph arm strength. Left-handed hitter that starts spread out for balance. Has a short swing with the barrel getting in and out of the zone. Registered a top exit velocity of 78 mph and ran a 4.56 home to first. On the mound the southpaw really projects. He has a tendency to open up on his delivery. Throws from a high-¾ slot with fastball sitting 72-74 mph with a little arm-side run. Breaking ball has a big 1/7 break at 61-63 mph and uses a changeup at 65-66 mph with good arm speed and some fade to it.
Seth Lonsway, LHP, Celina, 2017
Scouting Report: 6-foot, 165-pound athletic frame. On the mound the southpaw has a slow tempo delivery with good direction. Throws from a high-¾ slot with his fastball sitting 83-85 mph with arm-side run. He uses a breaking ball with good depth and 12/6 action at 69-70 mph. Seth did showcase a slider with side-to-side action and late break at 72 mph. Three-pitch lefty that was impressive and will be interesting to see how he progresses. One to keep an eye on.
Tanner Freeman, 3B/SS, Celina, 2017
Scouting Report: 5-foot-11, 175-pound athletic build. From the infield he shows good range and quick transfer throwing from a short, high-¾ slot with 77 mph arm strength across the diamond. Right-handed hitter that stands tall with feet close together. Has good rhythm in his swing with some strength and a high finish. Registered a top exit velocity of 83 mph and ran a 4.78 down the line.
Trevor Martinez, 1B/3B, Defiance, 2017
Scouting Report: 5-foot-10, 215-pound build. From the infield he shows good range for his size and projects as a corner guy. Throws from a high-¾ slot with 68 mph arm strength. Right-handed hitter that starts slightly closed with his front toe pointed in. Starts his hands high with quick hands and decent bat speed. Ran a 5.22 down the line.
