Wayne 2, Buffalo 0
In what seems to be an early season theme pitching was able to trump offense as Wayne, No. 4 in the most recent Metro News AA Power Rankings, moved past Buffalo. Taylor Jones and Cayden Ross (No. 6 in the current WV Class of 2018 Rankings) combined to hold the Bison scoreless on four hits.
The Pioneers did all their damage in the bottom of the third inning. Luke Cassidy started things with a triple to deep center. Josh Perry then reached on a bunt single. Ross then followed by singling to right and plating both runners providing the margin of victory.
Buffalo did threaten on multiple occasions, stranding five runners, but was unable to break through with a timely hit. Michael Harber led the Bisons with two doubles.
In addition to Ross, who is now 9-for-22 with two doubles, nine RBI and seven runs on the young season, Dakota McCloud (No. 13 in the current WV Class of 2017 rankings, pictured right) has enjoyed a productive early season going 8-for-16 with two home runs, two doubles and nine RBI. Wayne is now 6-1.
