With the 2019 spring season right around the corner, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best high school coverage throughout the entire state. Starting in January, we began releasing team previews for teams across the state, leading into the Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings.

2019 Spring Team Preview: Wadsworth Grizzlies

Team Name: Wadsworth Grizzlies
Head Coach: Greg Pickard
Division: I
2018 Record: 13-9
Conference Record: Suburban National 9-5 (T-1st)
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 6/3

2019 Team Strengths:

  • Leadership
  • Defense
  • Offense
  • Pitching

Coach Outlook: "We feel we have a nice mix of returning players and new guys ready to compete at the varsity level. We have a core group of players returning offensively, but will need to replace some seniors from last year in our starting rotation. We feel we should compete once again for a league title in a very strong Suburban League National division. If our new varsity players compete at the level we believe they can, there is no reason that we shouldn't be able to make a strong showing in the tournament."

PBR Outlook: The Grizzlies and coach Greg Pickard have a nice combination of upperclass experience and underclass talent which should prove positive for a nice 2019 campaign.

  • Nick Lallathin, P/OF, 2019, 6-3/ 185lbs, L/L 3-year starter, Walsh University recruit. Last years stats - .338 ave. 5 2b, 12 RBI, 4-0, 1.55 ERA, 32 K, 11 BB 40 IP
  • Carl Pennington, SS, 2019, 6'/185lbs, R/R 2-year starter. Last years stats - .354 AVE, 3 2b, 7 RBI, 9 R.
  • Jake Peebles, 1B/P, 2020, 6'/190lbs, L/L 1-year starter. Last years stats - .319 AVE, 
  • Trey Shaffer, P, 2020, 6'1"/190, R/R 2-year starter.  Last years stats - 1-1, 3 sv, 3.06 ERA.
  • Matt Moore, C, 2019, 6'1"/175, R/R 1-year starter.
  • Connor Hallas, Utl, 2019, 5'11"/ 175 R/R
  • Brock Snowball, 2019, 6'1"/205 R/R Injured last year.
