In a rematch of last year’s title game, the Warhawk bats came to play to kick off the morning session of the state tournament, banging out 11 runs on 11 hits en route to an 11-1 win over Burlington in five innings. The Warhawks put up crooked numbers in the second, third and fifth innings to put away the Demons.

Jack Becker led the Arrowhead offense with a 2-for-2 day driving in three runs and scoring one. Bryce Toussaint also chipped in two hits including an RBI double and scored three runs.

Derek Crawley held the the Demons to just one run on five hits over the five innings to pick up the win. Crawley struck out one and walked none.

Beloit Memorial 1
Sun Prairie 2

The second quarterfinal matchup of the day saw strong pitching efforts from Sun Prairie’s Taylor Middaugh and Beloit Memorial’s Miguel Betancourt. Midduagh outlasted Betancourt working 5.2 innings of one run baseball.

Beloit Memorial, the surprise team of the tournament, knocked off powerhouse Janesville Craig in the Sectionals and looked to be on track for another upset by taking an early lead on the Cardinals. The Purple Knights scored first in the fourth on an RBI single by Avery Lewis, giving Beloit Memorial a brief 1-0 lead.

Sun Prairie answered right away in their bottom half of the fourth scoring twice on Betncourt. Carson Holin and Ben Hauser started the inning with back to back doubles, Hauser driving in Holin. Two batters late Jack Zander executed a squeeze to bring in Hauser from third and give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead.

Memorial threatened in the sixth with a two out double by Lewis to put the tying run in scoring position. But Coach Hamilton called on closer Walker Jenkins to finish off the inning with a strikeout while making quick work of the Purple Knights in the seventh to advance to the Semifinals.

Sun Prairie will take on Arrowhead in the first semifinal game at 6pm.

Eau Claire North 9
Green Bay Preble 0

In what was probably the most anticipated match-up of the quarterfinals, our top two Power 25 teams, Green Bay Preble and Eau Claire North squared off in what was anything but a tantalizing effort. The Huskies made easy work of Green Bay Preble erupting for seven runs in the second inning, while ace Tanner Halvorson carved, scattering just one hit over five innings.

The potent Husky lineup scored eight runs on five hits over their first six outs, putting the game virtually out of reach before it even started. Zac Stange and John Bickle led the offense with three hits a piece. Bickle drove in two while Stange scored twice.

Kimberly 11
Waunakee 2

Kimberly ended Waunakee’s playoff run with a 11-2 win in the last quarterfinal game of the day. RHP Davis Matz held Waunakee to just two runs, one earned on five hits while walking three and striking out three.

Kimberly’s offense added a pair of runs at a time scoring twice in the second, third and fifth frames until opening it up in the sixth with a five run rally. The Papermakers collected 14 hits, while every player in the starting lineup pitched in with at least one. Drew Lechnir, John Nett, Connor Chitko, Drew Johnson and Beau Schumacher all had two hits. Schumacher drove in three. Chitko and Johnson each drove in a pair.
