Virginia State Player Of The Year Announced

The 2017 high school season yielded many stellar individual performances across all corners of Maryland. But one player stood above the rest:
ANDREW ABBOTT
Abbott, a senior left-handed pitcher / outfielder from Halifax County HS, delivered a statistically dominant season while helping lead his team to a 21-4 record and making it to the 5A State Championship Game.
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound Abbott went 9-0 for Halifax this season with a 0.28 ERA and 158 strikeouts in 76.2 innings pitched. At the plate, Abbott hit .447 with 25 runs scored, six doubles, three triples and a homerun. Abbott is a Virginia commit and was drafted by the New York Yankee in the 36th Rd(Pick 1082).
Abbott's all-around performance has earned him the 2017 Prep Baseball Report Virginia Player of the Year honors.
Abbott edged out a highly competitive field of candidates, selected by Virginia Scouting Director Jerry Shank and his team of area scouts who covered the season throughout the spring. Player of the Year nominations are provided by high school coaches across the state. Player of the Year criteria includes, but not limited to, on-field production and positive character qualities that represent the state.
