Vermont Spotlight Game: Division IV State Championship - No. 1 South Royalton vs No. 2 Danville
BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Senior righty Josh Skoskie fired a complete-game four-hit shutout as top-seeded South Royalton blanked second-seeded Danville 4-0 in the Division Four title game Friday night. In winning its second straight D-4 championship and eighth overall, the Royals completed an undefeated season at 18-0.
Skoskie, heading to D-III Castleton in the fall, struck out 13 and walked four, one intentionally. Nick Howe led the game off for South Royalton with a single, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored the game's first run on a double steal. He also singled in a run in the fifth. The Royals stole eight bases on the night, with four the steals leading to three of the runs.
The Indians (12-5) had baserunners in all seven innings but only in the first did they have two aboard in the same frame and it was the only time they had a runner reach third. Sophomore Tyler Wells had two of Danville’s four hits.
